Korean Language at Westfield High Schools

Westfield HS is seeking community input about adding Korean to their course offerings.  Westfield currently offers American Sign Language, French, German, Japanese, Latin, and Spanish.

Students currently in grade 8 who will be attending Westfield HS and their parents/guardians are invited to complete a survey to share their input by accessing the following link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/KORWHS

Information gathered from these surveys will help inform course offering decisions in upcoming years.  We ask that there be only one submission per student.  The survey will remain open until November 28th.  Thank you in advance for your participation.

Book Fair

Mark your calendars for the PTA-RCMS Book Fair, December 10-14, 2018.  This is a great place to come to grow those personal libraries, and books always make great gifts!  Students who wish to make a purchase will be allowed to visit the Book Fair during school hours.  In addition, families are welcome to visit the Book Fair during our evening hours on Tuesday, December 11 and Wednesday, December 12, 6:00-8:00PM.  Parent volunteers are also needed to help run this event.  Please sign up at https://goo.gl/GmW2Js.

BYOD Program

As you know, we encourage students to bring their own device to school as part of our Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program, http://www.fcps.edu/it/byod/index.shtml. Whether writing a paper, solving math problems, researching a topic, or collaborating with fellow students, portable technology can help your child better complete his or her school work and assist them in developing skills that will prepare them for their future. If you are considering purchasing a computing device for your child, a variety of products including laptops,Chromebooks, tablets, smartphones, and e-book readers are available and offer many powerful tools for you to choose from. Although Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) does not require students to purchase their own devices, if you are considering purchasing a device that your child could use during the school day or at home, please review the specifications listed here on the BYOD at Rachel Carson website page.

Carson Cares-Holiday Assistance

Over the last several years, the Carson Cares Committee, in conjunction with school staff, the PTA, SCA, NJHS, and our generous community members, has been fortunate enough to be able to provide supplemental assistance during the holidays to our families in need.  Please contact Courtney Krsmanovic, School Social Worker, or Solangie McPherson, Parent Liaison, for more information if you or a family you know is in need of assistance this holiday season.
