Hackathon Competition

Two McLean High School Seniors, John Mutersbaugh & Jules Le Menestrel, received one of the few awards and prizes at the "Hackathon" Event (by Major League Hacking) held at Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria, VA.  This was an overnight competition lasting over 24 hours. John and Jules worked as a team on their coding/programming project which they named: Saving the Ocean With Neural Networks. They attended workshops, worked through the night on their project, and then presented it to the judges on Sunday morning November 4th. Both John and Jules received the award for best overall theme, and each were given an Amazon Echo Dot device and a business card with an invitation to send their resumes to Decipher Technology Studios in Alexandria, VA. Many middle and high school students from all over attended the event. We are very proud of the boy's outstanding accomplishment and the outstanding way they represented McLean High!

Savedge Award for Sustained Excellence in Scholastic Journalism

McLean’s yearbook and newsmagazine are recipients of the Colonel Charles E. Savedge Award for Sustained Excellence in Scholastic Journalism.  There are only 13 recipients of this award in the Virginia. A school must earn at least five Trophy Class awards in the seven years. The current award honors those publications that qualified between 2012-2018.  Congratulations to advisors Lindsay Benedict and Meghan Percival!

Dance Team

Varsity Dance Team won the Regional Grand Champions Award at the Dance Team Union competition! Their jazz routine, in addition to placing first in the varsity jazz category, was awarded the best performance in the entire competition!  While the team has won numerous first place awards in the past, this is the first time the team has ever won the Grand Champions Award at any competition.  Congratulations to our Varsity Dance Team!

Veterans' Day at McLean

Per our school's tradition, we celebrated Veterans Day with American Legion Post 270.  Students, Justin Ngo and Caroline Raymond, shared the importance of Veterans' Day and Finn Marks played Taps at the service.  It is a special day at McLean and one we all value.
