Kilmer MS News You Choose and Mental Health Wellness #13

In Mr. Lindgren’s Science class, students assume the role of painter during the Renaissance.  To review their learning about the properties of mixtures, they will mix egg yolks and tempera paint to create their masterpieces.

From the Principal's Desk:

Good day,

Thank you so much for all of your hard work this school year to help your students achieve at their highest! We want to make sure everyone enjoys the well-deserved upcoming breaks. In alignment with the Marshall Pyramid, we will implement “homework free breaks” during Thanksgiving, Winter, and Spring breaks. Teachers have been asked not to assign homework, or projects / assessments due on the first two days after the return from break.

Everyone has worked hard and needs some time to relax and rejuvenate. We hope you take advantage of the time to spend time with family and have a wonderful Thanksgiving Break!

Announcements

Mental Health Wellness

This week 8th grade students participated in a school counseling lesson on how to ACT (Acknowledge, Care, Tell) when they have concerns about themselves or a friend. This lesson is a follow up lesson to the Mental Health Wellness Program students participated in during their seventh grade year. Kilmer staff know that academics are only one part of a student’s life.  They believe it’s important for students to connect with adults at school and are dedicated to helping students in many ways. The following FlipGrid shows a few Kilmer teachers sharing some of their own experiences and what makes staff at Kilmer trusted adults for students to talk to in our building.  To view these videos, have your student log in to the link below using their fcpsschools.net email.

Reminders

Ellis Island Simulation

We are excited to share that, through our History classes and in partnership with our librarians, our 7th grade students will all travel through an Ellis Island Simulation on Monday, November 19 and Tuesday, November 20. This will  allow every Kilmer 7th grader to learn firsthand about the immigration process in the early 1900s. We need your help to pull off this informative (and fun) learning opportunity!

If you are available, please use the link to sign up for a time slot to  help us at our immigration stations. We will provide you with step-by-step directions when you come in to volunteer!
