It is hard to believe that December is almost upon us. It has been a busy start to the school year with so many highlights. We found great success both inside and outside the classroom. This morning we had the chance to recognize over 750 underclassmen who earned greater than a 4.0 GPA last school year. We also had over 1,000 students earn all A's and B's for the first quarter. Their names are proudly hanging in the main lobby outside of the Main Office. We have had numerous amazing concerts and plays from our Performing Arts Department. Our It's Academic Team won their first competition of the year and will be moving on to the second round in January. In sports, we made it to region play in Cheerleading, Volleyball, Cross Country, and Field Hockey. Our boy's cross country team had an impressive season capped with a 3rd place finish at the State Championship, two Oakton runners finished in the top 15.
These are just a few of the accomplishments from the fall. I am so grateful to be the principal at Oakton High School and have the chance to work with such an amazing student body, faculty and community. Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and quality time with family and friends. Go Cougars!
Renovation Update
Over the past several weeks, substantial progress has been made in grading the new softball field, along with the new parking lot. Polls for the new softball fence have also gone up. Large existing light polls along the kiss-and-ride are set to come down in the coming weeks, with one being lowered last week. Lights are also being removed up near the baseball field as well. New lights will be installed throughout the renovation. A new route has been established for any commuters who walk throughout the fields to access the metro.
Inside the building, work has begun at night in the cafeteria over the next one to two months. This work only blocks off one small square of the cafeteria at a time, however, it will allow them to do some initial work that will prepare for the full renovation this coming summer (June-August 2019).

Oakton Performing Arts - Dance Workshop
Calling all Dancers!! The Oakton Performing Arts Department will be producing “Catch Me If You Can” the Musical this spring! The music in the show is upbeat with a lot of singing/dancing ensemble numbers. Any Oakton student may audition to be in the show. Roles include both singing and dancing elements. Students may be cast to do both or strictly one or the other depending on the role. Students who have interest in auditioning for the show are asked to attend the Dance Workshop to be held in the auditorium on Tuesday, December 4th from 3:30-5:00pm.
The workshop is not an audition, but those who plan to audition for the musical should attend. The purpose of this workshop will be for you to meet the choreographer and get a feel for what the experience and style of dance will be like. It will also be an opportunity for the directors and choreographer to assess the overall dance ability of those auditioning so that we can prepare the auditions and show choreography accordingly. Official auditions will include both a dancing and singing component. Audition information and schedule to follow.
Please register for the Dance Workshop by no later than Friday, November 30th . You will need to login to your FCPS Google account to register. CLICK HERE TO REGISTER
