Stallion P.R.I.D.E.
Perseverance, Respect, Integrity, Dedication, and Excellence
From the Principal
Family,
Thank you once again for another great week. Even though it was a short week, it was still enough to get a great deal of work done. The staff had Monday and Tuesday to work together and continue planning for the rest of the year. We engaged in staff development on Monday related to Literacy and the FCPSOn initiative. With Literacy, we are striving to build the use of reading and writing into every aspect of learning within our building. By building our literacy capacity within our students, we are better able to have them achieve all of the tenants of the Portrait Of a Graduate model. In the FCPSOn professional development, we exposed teachers to strategies to create blended learning environments within their classrooms. Our teachers are working to be able to infuse digital citizenship into our everyday lessons. We will continue to work diligently to ensure that your students receive the best possible educational experience available.
Thank you to the Families that were able to make it out to the Digital Citizenship Parent Night on Thursday at South County Middle School. Not only was there a great amount of information shared, it was a great time to hear concerns that parents had, and they were able to share experiences. The student panel also provided parents with insight to the student world (a space I say, venture into at your own risk). Actually, the student panel was phenomenal, if only because they were just a group of great young leaders. I look forward the next opportunity to learn along with you all.
Tryouts for winter sports have pretty much come to an end, with exception for those athletes that are currently involved in a fall playoff sport. We are looking forward to continued excellence with our fall sport teams, and an introduction to some new athletes as we prepare for our winter competitions. I want to thank all of the parents that shared their children with us on the fields and courts of competition. We are so very proud of them, and hope that they will continue to participate and represent the Stallion Family in the future.
Friday morning we celebrated our Veterans by holding a flag raising ceremony. It was inspiring to see so many of our students and their parents attend and be a part of such a wonderful event. We are grateful that each of you is a part of the South County Family, and even more so for those military connected families that have chosen to be a part of this community. Your presence makes even me want to stand up straight; and our students are positively impacted by your presence as well. As I shared at the event, it is one of my biggest regrets that I did not commit my time to serving in the military, and that is why I work so diligently working with our students so that I can serve in that manner. To all of our Veterans, thank you for your selfless service to our country!
Saturday morning at 10:00am, the MAC Scholars will be assembling again to assist students with tutoring in various subjects. Tutors will be available on Saturday from 10:00am – 1:00pm here at South County HS in the library. Encourage your students to take advantage of free academic help and ensure that they don’t fall behind.
Lastly, have you asked your child what they learned in school today? Don’t just ask, “How was your day?” Ask them what they learned today. Having these ongoing conversations not only provides you with some insight to their day, but also gives you an opportunity to share in their learning. If you have children like my children, the first response is, “Nothing”, or “I don’t know.” But please know that your children are learning something every day at South County. We are teaching them to not only be capable of receiving knowledge, but also how to become better critical thinkers. Engage them, and enjoy them. Have a wonderful weekend, and thank you for having me. #onestallion

Why You Should Care
In order to continue hosting the annual Holiday Extravaganza and Craft Show to include the Candy Cane Kids Fun Run, Santa's Book Emporium, and Cookies with Santa, WE NEED YOUR HELP!
This event has become a holiday staple for the Lorton community. And there is a long list of groups that benefit to include: the Athletic Boosters, The Band Boosters, Leadership, our vendors, local elementary school children, and many SCHS clubs.

Please consider helping out. Service hours are available to students in grades 7-12. At the very least, please "LIKE" us on facebook at South County High School Craft Show.
Class of 2019 - This event is the largest fundraiser for your All Night Grad Party! Please, seniors and parents - check the signup to see where you can help and like us on Facebook.
