A Note from the Principal

We hope that everyone enjoyed a great long weekend with family and friends while staff had our teacher workdays to catch up on grading and instructional planning.  It is hard to believe that we have already completed the end of the 1st quarter, however, it is obvious as I walk around the building and see our students settled into routines and deeply immersed in learning.

This past week I have been able to get into classrooms more and talk with students about the projects they are in the midst of creating and the new skills they are acquiring.  It is energizing to see their excitement as they begin to have a better understanding of how they can control their instructional growth.  Hard work, effort and a willingness to collaborate with others will take our students far.

We have an amazing , dedicated teachers and instructional assistants that are dedicated and  passionate about supporting your child's learning.  What a joy it is to see it all in action!

I hope you will consider joining us at our upcoming events.  Tomorrow morning we welcome our dad's back for our next Dad's and Donuts! This weekend we have our Bookfair Books and Breakfast on Saturday morning.  Next Monday we honor our Veteran's and look forward to having you here for our Thanksgiving lunch.  We look forward to seeing you soon!

Sincerely,   Stacy Kirkpatrick

Personal Devices Usage - Instructional Use Only

There may be times that use of student cell phones or other personal devices are welcomed by your child's classroom teacher, in line with the FCPS Bring your Own Device Policy.  If teachers want students using personal devices, they will let students know. As teachers are planning activities that involve device usage, they ensure there are FCPS computers or iPads available for student use. Parents are not required to provide a personal device.

Cell phones should not be used for personal reasons during the school day to play games, text friends or parents or make phone calls.  If a student needs to contact a parent, they should ask to come to the front office and we will help them reach a parent.

Students should not text home that they are ill and need to be picked up.  Students that are ill must first be assessed by our clinic aide, who will then call the parent.  Students should not be using personal devices in our no-use zones which include bathrooms, halls (unless directed by a teacher), cafeteria or recess.

If a student uses a device in an inappropriate way, they will receive a warning by the classroom teacher and parent will be notified.  The second time it will be an administrative referral and the parent will be contacted.  On the third occurrence the device will need to be picked up by the parent from the main office.

If your child has a personal device or cell phone that they use to contact friends or parents, please discuss appropriate use with them.  Thank your for your help to communicate these instructional expectations
