LMS PTA News and Events

PTA Meeting THIS Monday, November 12 – Veteran's Day

meeting

Monday, November 12, 9 a.m.
Longfellow Lecture Hall

What roles do the Director of Student Services, Psychologist, Social Worker, and School Counselors play in our children's lives at LMS? Hint: A really important one.

Join us on Monday, November 12th (Veteran's Day) at the next PTA meeting to learn about the support available at Longfellow as our children navigate middle school.

Has your child been feeling anxious or stressed? Are they lacking in organization? Friendships starting to change? Maybe they have been feeling lonely? These are all common issues for kids in middle school. There is a whole support team at LMS to guide our kids through issues big and small. Meet the team as they explain their roles and who to contact for different issues/questions that arise. They will also discuss the results from last year's youth survey administered to 8th graders so parents can have a better understanding of your teen and the trends that are happening at LMS. They will also discuss the ACT screening administered to current 7th-grade students.

Join us for the PTA meeting at 9:00 a.m., followed by Principal Kihm's school update at 9:20. Marissa Brooks, Director of Student Services, Sara Delia, Psychologist, Catherine Kennedy, Social Worker and members of the school counseling staff will follow with their presentations.

Still a Few PTA Committees in Need of Volunteers

volunteers

The PTA is in need of just a few more committee chair volunteers. Please consider volunteering your time for one of these open positions.

Heritage Night – March 30
Calling all parents who want to be involved with our amazing international community to organize one of our largest and most fun events of the year. Over 500 students and parents attend this fun and educational community event. The evening includes a potluck dinner, displays from many different countries presented by Longfellow's ESOL students, a fashion show, and and a talent show. This is a joint event with Longfellow's international community and ESOL and foreign language teachers and there will be plenty of help as there are committee chairs and several teachers and staff dedicated to executing this event.

Bowling Night – February, Date TBD
Organize an evening of fun with a local bowling alley.

General Volunteer Pool – Don't have time to commit to being a chair, but want to hear about volunteer opportunities with the PTA. Sign up here to be part of the general volunteer pool. It does not commit you to any event, but you will be contacted first as needs arise.

Please contact Mel Tillotson at vpprograms.ptalms@gmail.com if you are interested in one of the openings.

Longfellow Love – Student Assistance Program

LL

Do you have financial difficulty providing meals for your children, school supplies, toiletries, or meeting other basic daily needs?

Longfellow Love is a student assistance program entirely funded by parent and community donations.  We use funds to distribute gift cards to families in need anonymously through the Student Services Department.

Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of donations in June 2018, we were able to support Longfellow families with gift cards for their needs over the summer, back to school supplies, and meal assistance for the upcoming Thanksgiving break.

Contact your counselor if you are in need of assistance.  We are here to help.

Three Ways to Support the Longfellow Love Fund

  • Click here to donate online,
  • Drop off the checks written to Longfellow PTA in the Longfellow Love collection box in the front office, or
  • Drop gift cards in the Longfellow love collection box in the front office.

NOTE: All donations are tax deductible contributions to the Longfellow PTA. ALL FUNDS go to the families for their personal expenses.
