Changes to Recess Beginning 2nd Quarter
Fairview is changing the recess schedule beginning 2nd quarter and moving from 2 shorter recesses to 1 longer recess. A new Virginia State law mandates at least 30 minutes of recess per day for elementary students and suggests 2 separate 15 minute recesses. During the 1st Quarter we provided students with 20 minutes of recess on the playground and a 2nd 10 minute recess either in the Learning Gardens or within the classroom. Beginning this quarter, we have reconfigured the master schedule to fit a single 30 minute recess for grades 1-6. Kindergarten will continue with 2 separate recess times each day.

PARENT SURVEY FOR FEDERAL IMPACT AID
PLEASE, PLEASE Return this survey for each child. We are required to collect 100% of the forms and we are still missing about 150 surveys.
If you have any questions, please contact Sarah Fuller at 703-503-3700 or email her at slfuller@fcps.edu
For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's school. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the box in Section 3. All forms must be signed, dated, and return immediately. All results are CONFIDENTIAL.

Monthly Learning Opportunities for both Students and Teachers
|
Fairview grade level teachers are coming to school early one day each month through March and learning together with teachers from one or two other grade levels about best instructional practices for literacy, math, and integrating technology to create a blended learning classroom environment. While their teachers are learning, students from those classrooms (grades 1-6), arrive at school beginning at 9:00 AM, drop their backpacks outside their classrooms, and go directly to the cafeteria where they are met by school counselors and several other Fairview staff. Together, the students participate in activities pertaining to the Positivity Project. This past month the students in grades 1-2 worked to make a Kindness Chain and then listened to Mr. Nielsen read a story about performing acts of kindness. Students in grades 3-4 and 5-6 wrote about various aspects of one or more of the following character traits: Kindness, Curiosity, Empathy/Perspective, and Bravery.

Yearbook Photos Needed
The Yearbook team is already hard at work compiling the best of 2018-2019 memories of students, faculty, events, and activities to create lasting memories in our school yearbook. How can you help?
1. Send candid photos to yearbook@fairviewpta.org.*
2. Volunteer to be a grade level committee member - help the chairs identify students and make sure everyone is included! Email yearbook@fairviewpta.org or check out the signup genius coming soon!
* The best photos to share are of kids "doing things" (vs. posed shots or selfies)...catching kids in the act of learning and having fun is what it's all about. Please send the highest resolution photos you have - the yearbook team will review for image quality, content, and opt-outs.
Thank you!
