Willow Springs Elementary School Weekly Update

Veterans Day Student Drawings

Veterans Day greetings created by second graders using Wixie.

Dear Willow Springs,

This week it was an honor and a privilege to see our students learning about Veterans Day and ways to let our servicemen and servicewomen know how much we appreciate them. In second grade students used Pebble Go, one of the free FCPS online databases available to all students through Blackboard 24/7, to research and learn more about Veterans Day. Other students used Wixie to create personal digital greetings as a small way to say thank you to those who have served, and continue to serve, our country in brave and selfless ways.

We will continue honoring Veterans on Monday with a multitude of activities throughout the building. Special photographs will be displayed on the lobby kiosk, guest speakers will visit our classrooms, the students will work on art projects, and many special lunch invitations are planned to show our gratitude to the US Armed Forces that protect freedom throughout the world. A special thank you to all the moms and dads in our school community for your service to our country. We wish you a very happy Veterans Day weekend!

We also look forward to seeing you at our Book Fair at Barnes and Noble on Sunday. With so many teacher readers and wonderful musical performances planned, it will truly be a memorable and community-building event! Thank you so much to the PTA for organizing one of our most anticipated events of the year! We look forward to craft stations, face painting, photos with Willow, our school mascot, and even a great performance from our Fox Ropers! You may also support our PTA by shopping at bn.com/bookfairs and using code 1244410 through Friday, November 16.

See you there!

Parent Volunteer Lunch Host/Hostesses Needed

Do you sometimes eat lunch with your child in the cafeteria?

Please consider volunteering to help out in the cafeteria on the Monday and Tuesday of Thanksgiving week, Monday, November 19th and Tuesday November 20th. We are short a cafeteria hostess on these days so the extra hands would be helpful. No training required, the hostess will give you a bucket with condiments, etc. to pass out as kids raise their hands for help.

Hope to see you in the cafeteria! The kids love seeing new faces!
