Floris Friday Message

Yeni Pic

Our Building Supervisor, Yeni Moreno, being honored by FCPS for keeping our building and grounds pristine!

Dear Families,

The beginnings of a new month and new quarter bring with them opportunities for new growth and reflection on how far we’ve come. This is the perfect time to encourage your children to think about the hopes and dreams they developed at the start of the school-year, and to measure their successes and areas for growth.

Positives of student learning are shared with families through upcoming progress reports that will be sent home on November 13th. Please remember that progress reports are a communication tool that reflect students’ growth in learning and citizenship, and with your guidance, they should be viewed as learning opportunities. Discuss with your children their areas of strength and positively challenge them to continue to grow and learn as the year progresses. Teachers are among your children’s biggest fans, and they are happy to discuss any concerns with you and your children and make plans for students to progress and work up to their potential. For more information about understanding progress reports, visit: https://www.fcps.edu/node/31383

November also brings several exciting events such as our Thanksgiving luncheon on November 15th. Parents are cordially invited to attend this annual event. Be on the lookout for more information coming home in your child's folder on Wednesday, November 7th.

We also want to extend another huge THANK YOU for all your support of our Boosterthon Fun Run fund raiser. As promised, I can now confirm that the funds will be distributed as follows:

Technology

(2 Epson projectors, 60 laptops, 1 cart to hold the laptops).

$28,000

(Big Truck Day, Mother’s Day Event, Martha Washington, Powhatan Indian World, Fairy Tale Engineering, Curtis Blues, Virginia Historical Society Video Presentations, “Under the Sea” classroom program, “It’s Cool in Your School” and the school-wide Bullying Assembly)

$6,000

Reminder, Monday, November 5th and Tuesday, November 6th are student holidays and Saturday, November 4th we turn our clocks back 1 hour.

Have a wonderful weekend and we'll see everyone on Wednesday, November 7th.

Sincerely,

Gail Porter, Principal and Dave Gerstner, Assistant Principal

Annual Impact Aid Survey

REMINDER: If you have not done so already, please complete the form and return to the school ASAP. We must have a form for every student. If your form has been mis-placed, please have your child’s teacher notify the front office and we will provide you a new one.

Hold the Date: Fall Barbeque – Nov 7th

Wednesday, November 7th, please join us for our third annual “Kick-off to Fall” barbeque. Again, this year, Energy Zone, the organization that manages FCPS’ cafeteria and nutrition programs, is hosting the Rotational Barbeque. This is where they bring a grill to the school and freshly grill the sandwiches for students, staff and families to purchase and enjoy for lunch. The menu includes hamburgers, cheeseburgers, veggie burgers, turkey hotdogs, turkey half smoke, Celery Sticks and/or Baby Carrots, Apple Slices or Orange Quarters and Iced Cold Milk. Cost for students/children is $3.25 and Adults, $4.50. Weather permitting, we will be using this special event to setup outside as a picnic. Please be sure to PACK A TOWEL or blanket for your child to sit on and one for yourself should you be able to join us. We look forward to seeing you!!
