McLean’s yearbook and newsmagazine staffs have been named Crown Award Finalists by CSPA
The Columbia Scholastic Press Association announced their list of yearbook and news Crown finalists and both The Clan yearbook and Highlander newsmagazine and online staffs have been selected for this prestigious honor. The publications will receive either a Silver or Gold Crown at the award ceremony at Columbia University on March 22.
McLean is the only school in the state of Virginia, and one of just 12 school nationwide, to have BOTH their yearbook and news publications represented on the Crown list!
 National Honor Society Induction
The National Honor Society (NHS) inducted 221 new members! Each new member must meet the qualifications set forth by NHS. These qualifications include scholarship, service, leadership, and character.

Economics for Leaders
Caroline Howley attended the Economics for Leaders program at Yale University this past summer. She gained a better understanding on how to integrate economics into the process of decision-making in a hands-on, experiential environment.

Band
Congratulations to our THREE TIME USBands VA State Champions!
1st place in Class VI Open, Best Music, Best Visual, Best Effect, and Highest score of the day in Open Division
Additionally the Marching Band received 1st place in Class 5 at the Knight Under the Lights - best musical performance, best visual performance, best effect, and superior rating.
The Marching Band also received 1st place in the Class 6 Open for the USBands Marine Corps Invitational - Best Music Performance, Best Visual Performance and Best General Effect.
They also received 1st place at the USBands Northern VA Regional Championships - Best Musical Performance, Best General Effect, Best Visual Performance, and highest score of the day.

 Homecoming Highlights
This year's Homecoming theme was GloCo. The Leadership students went all out with decorations, and we had the all time highest number of students attend the dance.
Teachers and students participated throughout Spirit Week. It was a great week and we appreciate all the preparation and hard work our Leadership students demonstrated with the support of Ms. McNamara and Mr. Kidd.

 Wellness Wednesday
Every Wednesday in October, students participated in Wellness Wednesday. Activities are set up during all lunches for the students to de-stress and have some fun. Thanks to all of our parent volunteers.
Next month, all activities will be held on Tuesdays.
 Best Buddies and Special Olympics
Our Work Study students enjoyed playing soccer through the month of October. The Best Buddies Walk was held October 20 that many of our students attended.
