Parent Teacher Conferences - November 5 - 6
Monday, November 5 and Tuesday, November 6 are Parent/Teacher Conference Days. These are student holidays and there is no school. Students return to school for the second quarter on Wednesday, November 7.
Tips for a Successful Parent Conference
- Talk with your child about school before the conference.
- Make a list of possible questions you may have. Write this list in order of importance so that you get to the most important topic first. Here are some common questions:
- How is my child doing academically in school?
- How are his/her work habits and behavior?
- Does my child get along well with others?
- How can I help my child at home?
- Start with a positive attitude. Remember that you and the teacher work as a team to support your child’s education.
- Share anything you think might be important for the teacher to know about your child to help them succeed in school.
- Take notes to help you remember what was discussed.
- Be on time and only stay for your scheduled time.

Veterans Day Celebration – November 12
Our Annual Thanksgiving Luncheon will also be held on November 12, 2018. Come enjoy turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce, fresh fruit, and the company of your child. Sounds irresistible!
In addition to the good eats, we will be inviting parents to their child’s classroom for an Open House. Depending on when your child is scheduled for lunch, their 40 minute Open House time will be before or after lunch. Schedules went home in the Thursday folder. Thanksgiving Lunch Schedule
To save time and help our lines move quickly, all lunch tickets must be purchased prior to entering the cafeteria. Please put money on your student’s lunch account or send in cash for their meal. Student lunches are $3.25. All visitors will be asked to pay for their lunch in the school lobby for $4.50 per person. This includes all adults and siblings who do not attend Forestdale. Please come prepared to pay with cash or check for your meal. We cannot process any electronic payments.
NNAT2 Testing for Grade 1 Students – November 13 – 16
The Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test Second Edition (NNAT2) will be administered to first grade students and select students in grades 2 -6 from November 13 -16, 2018. It is important that your child attend school on these days. If possible, please avoid scheduling trips or appointments that would take your child out of school during this time period. It is also important that your child has had a good night’s rest and a healthy breakfast before testing.
The NNAT2 is a nonverbal measure of general intellectual ability. The test evaluates a student’s reasoning and problem-solving skills through the identification of patterns involving geometric shapes and pictorial designs. The test is designed to assess ability without requiring the student to read, write, or speak. Students are not expected to know the answers to all questions and will be given opportunities to practice sample items before taking the test. The NNAT2 is an abilities test, so children are not expected to study or prepare for the test the way they would for an achievement test.
Score reports will be provided to parents once scores become available. Typically, these reports are available several months after the test is taken. If you have any questions about this test, please contact the Advanced Academics Resource Teacher (AART), Katelyn Spengler, or School Test Coordinator, Kolette De La Cruz, at your child's school.
