The FCPS Parent Resource Center (PRC) provides resources, information, and consultations to support the success of all students, including those with learning challenges, special needs, and disabilities. Confidential meetings, training opportunities, an extensive lending library, and a year-long calendar of workshops are offered for parents, educators, and community members through collaboration with staff members from FCPS offices as well as local and national experts.     Join us for this important workshop for parents of children receiving special education services. Parents are essential partners in the IEP process. Strategies to support your role in your child's IEP meetings will be shared and highlights include: the IEP process and its components, your role in the IEP meeting, responsibilities of the IEP team members, and planning for your child's IEP meeting.

    Did you ever know deep down that girls and boys learn differently? Learn how the practical application of this research can provide behavioral and emotional interventions to both boys and girls. Gain knowledge about the many brain-based resources available for parents in the community and online.

  • The IEP Transition Plan: Postsecondary Planning in Middle and High School
    Join FCPS Career and Transition Services (CTS) to learn the importance of the IEP Transition Plan for effective postsecondary planning in the middle and high school. Have in-depth conversations with CTS staff members and get answers to questions about what parents should look for, questions to ask the school team, questions to ask your child, and what role the IEP plays in increasing self-advocacy.

Virginia Alternate Assessment Program (VAAP) Binder Review
VAAP Collection of Evidence (COE) will be available for review by parents and/or guardians during two windows:\

  • November 6-9, 2018 at the Test Distribution Center (TDC) in Springfield
  • November 12-14, 2018 at Willow Oaks Center in Fairfax

Appointments must be made through the school’s Assessment Coach (AC) or School Test Coordinator (STC).


 

Especially for Staff Members

 

VAAP Professional Development Opportunity
The Office of Extended School Year (ESY) and Assessment is offering a Year Long Overview of the VAAP: Next Steps for Instruction on November 5, 2018. This training is for both new and veteran teachers of students participating in the VAAP. There will be both elementary and secondary sessions offered. Sign up on MyPLT # SS-44020.


All New Early Childhood Class-based and Resource Teachers are invited to attend the Assessment, Evaluation, and Programming System (AEPS) training. The AEPS is a required assessment for all early childhood special education class-based and resource students. Teachers are required to attend training prior to administering. Preschool Autism Class (PAC) teachers are not required to participate in this training. Teachers will need to attend either the morning OR afternoon session for each of the two training days. Training dates are November 12 and 26, 2018, either 8:30-11:30 a.m. or 1-4 p.m. at the Willow Oaks Administrative Center. During the 2018-19 school year, Assistive Technology Services (ATS) will be offering training sessions focused on the use of high-end Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices. Participants will learn basic programming and maintenance of the devices as well as integration ideas. These sessions are open to both staff members and parents of students using the specific devices. To register, contact the ATS Resource Teacher who supports your school.
