A note from Dr. Goodloe:
Dear Rocky Run Families:
It has been a super week of learning, creativity, and fun at RRMS. I am so proud of student progress and behavior as they have completed the first quarter of the 18-19 school year. Our students have consistently demonstrated the P2 strengths of Creativity, Open Mindedness, Perspective, Teamwork and Integrity while making smooth transitions into 7th and 8th grade. We recognize students demonstrating the Other People Matter mindset daily in the ways in which they interact with each other, their teachers, and in our community. THANK YOU for sending us your wonderful children each and every day.
November 5 and 6 Student Holidays:
Do you ever wonder what teachers and school staff are doing on Student Holidays? We are engaged in professional learning, collaboration with our colleagues, and at the end of the quarter - finalizing grades. On Monday, November 5 the RRMS staff will be engaged in several professional development workshops focused on fostering positive relationships with students, developing a positive culture, and health and wellness. November 6 is Election Day, and RRMS is a polling place. Teachers are permitted to work off site. Please note: The RRMS main office will close at 1 PM on Tuesday, November 6 and will reopen at 7 AM on November 7.
Student Schedule for November 7-9:
We will be on a Blue (Wed.), Gold (Thursday), Anchor Day (Friday) schedule next week.
I welcome your feedback, questions, and suggestions. Please feel free to reach out to me at anytime. I hope to see you at Rocky Run MS very soon.
Sincerely,
Amy T. Goodloe, Ed.D

STUDENT-PARENT SURVEY FOR FEDERAL IMPACT AID
We are continuing to collect Impact Aid forms. If your student has not yet returned his/her form to their Rock Time teacher. Please do so before November 9th.
Returning this form is important because information from this survey results in an anticipated $3 million dollars in grant funds each year from the U.S. Department of Education.
These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers. For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's school. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the box in Section 3. All forms must be signed, dated, and returned by October 26. All results are CONFIDENTIAL. Learn more by watching this short video featuring Superintendent Scott Brabrand and the U.S. Army Garrison Commander COL Michael Greenberg from Fort Belvoir.
Positivity Project
Upcoming Trait: BRAVERY
Week of 11/2 - 11/9
Bravery means you act with mental, moral, or physical strength even when you know things are difficult or scary.
So, why is this strength important? Overcoming fears is critically important in individual development, as it allows the person to do more and become more. A person can be brave every single day. For example, some people with social anxiety are brave just by leaving their house and talking with people. On a physical level, bravery allows us to overcome fears, such as swimming or playing a sport. And, on a moral level, doing what we know to be right, despite the risks, gives us the sense that we are acting on behalf of a larger purpose.

2018 Fairfax County Youth Survey
The youth survey will be administered to all 8th grade students on Nov. 9th.
