"Kindness is more than deeds. It is an attitude, an expression, a look, a touch. It is anything that lifts another person." - Plato
Dear Justice Families:
We welcomed Dr. James Lane, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Delegate Kaye Kory, School Board Member Sandy Evans, FCPS Chief Equity Officer Dr. Francisco Duran, and Region 2 leadership team members Penny Gros and Dr. Brendan Menuey for a visit on Friday, October 26th. The group had the opportunity to meet with our leadership students and hear about what makes Justice HS a special place. We also visited several classrooms where we saw students working on historical timelines, citing evidence from a text, graphing equations and planning and creating desk organizers. We were pleased to have some time to advocate for our community related to the new Standards of Accreditation that were put in place by the VDOE for this school year. We will continue to work with VDOE to highlight the needs of our community and showcase the steps that we are taking to reduce academic achievement gaps and increase attendance and on-time graduation rates.
Justice students and staff will celebrate “be thankful” month during November. Starting November 7th, students may pick up JusticeJoy #thankful cards from the office or in the cafeteria during lunch. Students please take a few minutes to write and share with a teacher or staff member a note of appreciation. A few kind words may make someone’s day.
Have a great weekend.
We had another informative senior parent coffee this morning with over 20 parents in attendance. We tried a new format where parents were able to choose sessions based on their child’s post-secondary pathways and the response was quite positive. We really enjoyed how parents were sharing strategies to keep their seniors on track with college applications and balance all of the fun components of senior year!
The marching band will travel to Monticello High School in Charlottesville this Saturday to perform at the state marching assessment. After their assessment performance, the band will travel to Powhatan High School to compete in the Powhatan Classic. On Sunday of this week the band will perform in the Sleepy Hollow and the Lake Barcroft Halloween Parades. We are so proud of our Marching Band and wish them success this weekend!!
The career center will be open during Wolf Time on October 29th and November 12th for seniors to come in and work on their college applications and essays. The end of the quarter can be a stressful time for our students so this week’s Wolf Time lesson focus on strategies to reduce stress. The Positivity Project lesson this week will focus on perspective.
