Charger Dash (Boosterthon Fun Run) Coming October 29
Families! This year’s main fundraiser is our Charger Dash! It’s a two-week program that kicks off with a Pep Rally on October 29. Families will then gather pledges for every lap your student runs (30-35 laps), and we’ll celebrate at the Charger Dash on November 9.
With our big goal of raising $24,000 for books and other resources to enhance our literacy program, we asked the Fun Run experts at Boosterthon to power our Charger Dash and make it easier, more profitable, and more fun.
Students will also experience an amazing character theme, MINDSPARK MYSTERY LAB! Boosterthon’s most exciting theme yet combines S.T.E.A.M skills (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) with character-building. While they're teaming up with the MindSpark Kids to solve mysteries, our students will learn five 21st-century character traits that will help strengthen themselves and our world.
Donations will go toward books and other resources to enhance our literacy program and to the entire two-week experience. So please help our school by reaching out to sponsors. Also, all families are invited to come out and cheer at the Charger Dash!
View this SUPER video for more information!
This will be a POSITIVELY EPIC experience for our entire community!

How do you know if a website is protecting your child’s private information? US law requires that websites protect the information of children 13 and under. Information that is protected under this law includes their first and last name, address, email address, and Social Security number.
Every website must have a clear link to their privacy policy. Check the privacy policy of any sites your student has an account with to make sure they are protecting his or her private information. You can also look for the seal of approval from the Better Business Bureau and TRUSTe, two organizations that evaluate sites for how they are using children’s personal information.

Positivity Project: PERSPECTIVE
 WHAT DOES PERSPECTIVE MEAN?
You appreciate when people see things in different ways. You have the ability to understand the world from multiple points of view.
Perspective is also referred to as wisdom and is distinct from intelligence. People with this strength are sought out for advice because they see the big picture and can make sense of the world’s complexity. This strength of perspective gives individuals the ability to see to the heart of difficult matters and achieve clarity. Most importantly, they are honest and behave in an ethically consistent manner.
Perspective is usually gained over time, as one accumulates more knowledge and experiences. However, developing perspective is not only a matter of time. It comes from truly listening to others when they talk and working to understand new points of view when reading books, listening to stories, or watching movies.
|
WHY DOES IT MATTER?
Perspective helps an individual make sense of the world. It provides clarity on what matters and what does not. Being able to see things from multiple angles helps individuals remain calm and learn from mistakes; they are typically highly self-aware. Reflecting on their own feelings, thoughts, and motives helps them understand and empathize with other people. These individuals are strong listeners and ask great questions.
On a group level, perspective helps couples, teams, communities, and societies act wisely and correctly. Individuals with the strength of perspective help their group get through difficult or uncertain circumstances because they’re poised and can identify opportunities for success. Moving into an increasingly complex future, the need for individuals with perspective will only increase.

Federal Impact Aid Forms - Let's Get 100%
Beginning on October 16th, FCPS will be asking all families to fill out a Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid. This form will be available to complete during your Parent-Teacher Conference. If you have already had your conference, the Federal Impact Aid form will be sent home.
Returning this form is important because information from this survey results in an anticipated $3 million dollars in grant funds each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.
For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's school. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the box in Section 3. All forms must be signed, dated, and returned by November 8. All results are CONFIDENTIAL.
Learn more by watching this short video featuring Superintendent Scott Brabrand and the U.S. Army Garrison Commander COL Michael Greenberg from Fort Belvoir.
