This week our students focused on the trait of PERSPECTIVE. People with perspective appreciate when people see things in different ways. You have the ability to understand the world from multiple points of view.
Starting Monday, we will begin learning about CREATIVITY. Creative people can look at the world in original ways. They are open to new experiences, and have an imaginative and independent thought process. They generate lots of different ideas and can pursue them with energy and enthusiasm. CREATIVITY is a process that takes courage and we look forward to seeing the courageous ways our Powell pumas show their creativity.
The whole school is excited about our upcoming Scholastic Signature Book Fair. An amazing selection of books is headed our way! At the Book Fair you will find the latest and finest titles for kids.
Mark your calendar for our Family Night Event on Tuesday, October 30 where the whole family can join in the fun from 5:00-8:00. By visiting the teacher wish list board, you can contribute books to your child's classroom library. Don’t forget that pizza, chips and water will be sold in the cafeteria from 5:30-7:30 that evening. (Cash or checks accepted) All proceeds of the pizza sales will go towards the 6th grade Korean Immersion class trip.
Love books? Volunteer to help at the Book Fair. You can help students preview and select books as well as help keep the fair organized and neat. Please use this link: http://bit.ly/2E8J2wFBookFair to go to Sign-Up Genius and let us know you can help.
The Book Fair is a great way to get everyone excited about reading. If you can’t make it, please visit our Scholastic Web Page for Online Shopping from October 21– November 3 using the following link: http://www.scholastic.com/bf/cpes18
This site offers the same great books found at the fair and more! Our school code is 3914514. The books will be delivered to your child at school after the online sales end. Please be aware, unlike sales at the school fair, you will be charged tax on all online purchases.

Every year FCPS looks to honor employees who go above and beyond in what they do each day. If you and/or your child has been around a Colin Powell employee who has truly made a positive impact, please consider nominating them for one of the Outstanding Awards for FCPS. You may send in a nomination using this link: https://goo.gl/forms/SadaGx5SkIxzQtIh2.

SIS (Student Information System) is the secure system that
provides online access to view your child’s student information, including
attendance, health information, SOL test history and report cards.
In August and September parents of students new to FCPS and
parents of select Kindergarten students, those without a currently active SIS
Parent Account, were mailed a letter with an activation key to register for a
SIS Parent Account. You must create your account before the activation code
expires which is typically 45 days from the date the letter was mailed. If the
code has expired, you will need to contact the main office to receive a new
letter with activation code.
