Federal Impact Aid Forms, Red Ribbon Week, and Family Life Education Parent Preview Night

Federal Impact Aid Surveys

Starting on October 16, a Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid will be sent to all families.  The Impact Aid provides federal grant money to support FCPS schools and centers.  FCPS anticipates receiving about $3,000,000 each year in Impact Aid funds.

You need to complete a survey for each child in your household that attends a Fairfax County Public School.  Please complete, sign, date and return each survey to your child’s school.  If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the box in Section 3.  All forms must be signed, dated, and returned by October 26. All results are CONFIDENTIAL. Forms in English and other languages are available.

Red Ribbon Week - October 22 - 26

Forestdale Elementary will be taking part in a week long national celebration called Red Ribbon Week!  Red Ribbon Week was designed to create an awareness concerning the problems related to the use of tobacco, alcohol and other drugs.  The national these this year is “Life Is Your Journey, Travel Drug Free”.

Red Ribbon Week started in 1985 as a means of honoring D.E.A. Agent Enrique Camarena, who lost his life in the line of duty.  Today, Red Ribbon Week has grown into a notional observation – a time for schools and communities across the nation to come together in the fight against drugs.

At Forestdale, we will focus on the many aspects of health and safety.  You can take advantage of this time to open a dialogue at home and discuss issues like peer pressure and making the right choices for a healthy future!

Forestdale Elementary Red Ribbon Week Activities:

Mon. 10/22 “We Are RED-Y To Be Drug Free” – Wear All Red
Tues. 10/23 “Sock It To Drugs” – Wear Mismatched or Crazy Socks

Thinkabit Lab Field Trip for Young Scholars

Students joined Ms. Spengler to the Thinkabit Lab run by Virginia Tech. Students learned how to program a circuit to create a working stoplight. They had fun learning how to change the times of each light. Students applied their knowledge of programming to create their own working robot. Each partnership collaborated to design and build unique creations.
