CLASSROOM HIGHLIGHT: GRADE 5, MS. PEZZUTI

POG Classroom

In Ms. Pezzuti’s fifth grade class, students see Portrait of a Graduate connections in each of their daily learning objectives. By posting learning objectives for each subject area, Ms. Pezzuti helps students set academic goals for the day and understand their learning path. Linking those objectives to POG Attributes allows student to target the specific skills needed to master their daily learning goals. This is one of the many ways teachers are embedding POG in their daily activities here at Eagle View.

To learn more about Portrait of a Graduate Attributes, visit the FCPS POG webpage at https://www.fcps.edu/index.php/about-fcps/portrait-graduate or follow us on Twitter @EagleViewES.

FAMILY TRAVEL

Are you planning a family trip or vacation? As you think about your arrangements, we want to stress the importance of sending your child to school every day possible. Every year, absences spike in the weeks before and after holidays as families squeeze in a few more vacation days. We recognize that it is important to reconnect with families far away, but keep in mind the costs to your child’s education if they miss too much school— and the message you will be sending about the importance of attendance.

Chronic absenteeism (missing 18 or more school days per year, regardless of the reason) is a primary cause of lower academic achievement even when the absences are "excused" or understandable.
