Digital Citizenship - Healthy Habits

Celebrate Digital Citizenship Week by doing a check up of your technology habits!

Not all “screen time” is equal -- The Common Sense Census: Media Use by Tweens and Teens identifies four main categories of screen time:

  • Passive consumption: watching TV, reading, and listening to music
  • Interactive consumption: playing games and browsing the Internet
  • Communication: video-chatting and using social media
  • Content creation: using devices to make digital art or music

Healthy Habits to consider:

  • Encourage kids to maintain a balance of active and passive screen time activities.
  • Create a family schedule of screen time limits.

  • Include your child in selecting ways the family can improve healthy habits for technology use at home.
  • During screen time, remind your kids to scan their bodies every 15-20 minutes and take breaks accordingly:  look away, get up, stretch, and move around.
