Dear Willow Springs,
This week our AAP information session was facilitated by Sandy Guidice-Murray, our Advanced Academics Resource Teacher, where she provided information and resources about the continuum of services proudly offered at Willow Springs. We will continue our conversations surrounding Level IV services with 2-6 grade parents in December when Sandy will provide details and answer questions about the screening process. More information is listed below and found on our website.
Our kindergarten and fourth grade classrooms continued their annual traditions visiting Ticonderoga Farms in Loudoun County and the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C.! Our kindergartners picked pumpkins, went on a hayride, and played on the playground. Fourth graders enjoyed the National Symphony Orchestra’s Young People’s Concert which is held every year. This exciting concert featured the four sections or “families” of instruments: strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion. It is always a joy to see students engage in new adventures with their friends. Many thanks to our parent volunteers who accompanied our students and to our teachers for organizing these opportunities.
Enjoy your weekend.
Sincerely,
Dylan Taylor, Principal
Rashida Green, Assistant Principal
Sara Van Aalst, Assistant Principal
Please Return Federal Impact Aid Form
Federal Survey (Impact Aid) forms were distributed to our students in this week's Thursday folder. Your child should return the completed and signed form on Monday, October 22 to their homeroom teacher. If you have questions, please contact Liz Flaherty, our Registrar. Thank you to the 750+ parents that returned the form on Friday. Let's collect the remaining 300 this Monday!
Kindergarten Visits Ticonderoga Farms
His teacher said, "If you can carry it, you may bring it!" That's exactly what this kindergarten student did when he visited the pumpkin patch. His first field trip will definitely be a memorable one!
4th Graders Attend Kennedy Center Concert
This exciting concert featured the idea that orchestral music is accessible to everyone. Students learned more about the four sections or “families” of instruments: strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion.
Digital Citizenship Conversations Continue
This year’s focus for Digital Citizenship is Building a Culture of Shared Responsibility. We hope that we've sparked some educationally valuable conversations that can be promoted and supported all year long, by students, parents, and teachers. Visit our website for complementary activities and conversation starters that can begin at school and extend into the home. FCPS utilizes the Common Sense Education K-12 curriculum to provide students with knowledge and skills they need to approach their digital participation with empathy, ethics and a sense of individual, social and civic responsibility. In addition, teachers embed digital citizenship education daily as students engage with technology for learning and when possible, make connections to curriculum concepts being taught.
