Some attendance facts:
- Attending school
regularly helps children feel better about school—and themselves. Start
building this habit so students learn right away that going to school on time,
every day is important. Good attendance will help children do well in all levels of school and at work.
- Being late to school may
lead to poor attendance.
- Chronic absenteeism (missing 10% or about 18 days) is a primary cause of lower academic
achievement even when the absences are "excused" or understandable.
- A student who is
chronically absent in any year between the
eighth and twelfth grades is over seven times more likely to drop out of school
than a student who is not chronically absent.
- Changes in attendance
during the middle grades are predictive of the likelihood that students will be
on-track in ninth grade to graduate from high school within four years
(Kieffer, Marinell, and Stephenson, 2011).
- Remember to contact the school when your child is absent so the school is aware of the absence and knows your child is safe. Absences should be reported by calling Twain at 703-313-3737.
