Kent Gardens October Update #2

Principal's Note

 Dear Parents and Guardians,

As a large school that is nestled in a small neighborhood, we are challenged with traffic and parking.  Our neighbors also have routine challenges based on our traffic coming and going from school.  If you are using Lumsden as a means to enter the school or the Kiss and Ride area, we ask that you enter from Van Fleet or Dean Street.  With the construction on Lumsden, there are challenges with the ingress and egress of vehicles.  Consider using other neighborhood streets such as Macon.  Please DO be mindful of your driving and our neighbors’ driveways.  We do accept students beginning at 8:25 a.m.  If you are dropping off at kiss and ride, we recommend that you come early and beat the traffic.  We urge you to follow the guidelines below:

ALL traffic should enter the school from Melbourne Drive, not Lumsden Street. Do not proceed on Lumsden St. towards Melbourne Drive past Macon Street during morning drop off or afternoon dismissal. Left hand turns at the 4-way stop on Lumsden St. onto Melbourne Dr. are not permitted in the morning drop off or afternoon dismissal times.  To enter the traffic flow, proceed down Van Fleet and Dean Streets then turn left on Melbourne to enter the Kiss and Ride.

Thanks for your continued support and responsible driving!

Holly McGuigan, Pier McGrath and Toni Rose

PTA News

Hurricane for Hearts:  The PTA Community Service Committee is once again, organizing a “Hearts for Hurricanes” event.  This program will be a meaningful and exciting way for our children to support the children of North Carolina and Puerto Rico that were affected by the recent hurricanes.

We will be selling paper hearts for $1 each to show our support and love for the Hurricane victims in North Carolina and Puerto Rico. School supplies will be purchased with the collected funds, and we be shipped directly to our contacts in Puerto Rico and North Carolina.

Please visit our table outside the school doors 8:00 - 9:00 the week of October 15 – 19, to purchase a paper heart. Students can then write a message and sign their name on the paper. We will have a large heart in the school lobby and hope to fill the heart with messages of love and support.
