Franklin Sherman second graders have been learning about teamwork
through the Positivity Project. Teams of students were given 4 pieces of paper and a
roll of tape. Their challenge was to make the tallest standing tower. While they constructed their towers, they were
able to practice sharing, listening, and giving feedback to one another.

Miss Ishani Patel is Franklin Sherman's new 6th grade teacher. She is very excited to be part of the FSES family
this year and appreciates how welcoming everyone has been. Miss Patel was born in New Jersey but grew up in Loudon
County where her parents are still currently living. Miss Patel lives in Arlington. She has a
twin sister who lives in Salt Lake City, Utah, and an older brother who also lives in
Virginia. Miss Patel graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a bachelor’s
degree in elementary education and then went to George Mason University for her master’s degree. This is Miss Patel's fourth year of teaching. Before coming to Franklin
Sherman, she taught in Manassas City as a 6th grade teacher. In
her spare time, Miss Patel enjoys hiking, exploring DC, trying new
restaurants (she loves all types of cuisines), hanging out with friends, and going
to sporting events. She is a huge sports fan who loves going to Redskins, Wizards,
Capitals, and Nationals games when she can. Miss Patel is looking forward to
this school year, taking part in activities at Franklin Sherman, and
getting to know everyone in our FSES community.
For the seventh consecutive year, students in Fairfax County
Public Schools will join together to participate in International Walk to
School Day on Wednesday, October 10. The day is celebrated as a way to
promote physical activity while reducing traffic congestion and pollution near
schools.
All students are encouraged to walk or bike to
school where safe to do so or walk to their bus stops on October 10. Parents are encouraged to
accompany their children to school and to work with their schools, PTAs, or
PTOs to gather in groups for the event.
Parents who are interested in learning more about changes to the
FCPS and Franklin Sherman ES recess policy and procedures are invited to meet
with the administrators on October
11 from 5:30 – 6:00 p.m. in the library or October 26 from 9:30 – 10:00 a.m. in
the cafeteria.
Level IV services are available for students found eligible
through a central selection process. The program is available in grades
3-8. Eligible students use curriculum from the AAP Curriculum Framework
for Levels II-IV in the four academic subject areas on a full time basis.
Fall screening is held for students who are new to FCPS and have been
referred. The Advanced Academic Programs Level IV Referral Form for new
FCPS students enrolled after January 2017 is due to the AART, Carrie Reinders,
on or before October 11, 2018. For more information, please contact
Carrie Reinders at cmreinders@fcps.edu.
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) offers a continuum of
advanced academic services for all students in Grades K-8. Learning
experiences are designed to develop higher level thinking through enrichment,
acceleration, and extension of the Program of Studies (POS). An AAP
Parent Information Night will be held in the library at Franklin Sherman
E.S. on Thursday,
October 11, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. The Franklin
Sherman Advanced Academic Resource Teacher, Carrie Reinders, will provide
a general overview of the levels of services offered.
