Week 6

Week 6

Dear Parents,

Please consider  coming to the open PTO meeting on Wednesday at 6:30 pm in our library. This night is like a Back-to-School Night for the principal. I will be discussing our school vision, goals, student wellness, and give some behind-the-scenes looks at the principalship as well as school issues. I will be taking questions. I need this night to provide context and color to our written messages and receive feedback in a non-email format!

The feedback I received after last year's meeting was, " I wish more people had been here to hear this."

Students in K-6 may hang out next door in our iLab during this meeting.

Fun Run

Fun Run Help Needed!

Our PTO is busy gearing up for their biggest fundraiser of the year and a lot of help is needed to pull it off! Please consider volunteering to support the logistics of the fun run. Many of these activities are easy, doable at home and provide a great opportunity to see the kids--they get pumped up this time of year! Please sign up here. Hope you can spare some time to help.

Do You Have a ParentVUE Account?

FCPS is working on a paperless option for report cards which should be in place by the 2nd grading period.  Once this is in place, you will need to access your child’s report card through your ParentVUE account.  If you have not yet done so, please visit the site below to set up your account.  Should you have any questions regarding this process, please contact our registrar, Marianne Showalter, at 703-295-1117 or mshowalter@fcps.edu

CogAT

The CogAT window for 2nd grade students and those eligible in grades 3-6 will be October 5-12. Please try to avoid scheduling appointments during the school day on these dates. Students need to arrive well rested in the morning, having had a healthy breakfast, on time, and relaxed. Thank you!

Digital Citizenship

Digital Citizenship Expo

The 2018 Oakton Pyramid Digital Citizenship Expo will be on October 16th from 6:30 – 8:30PM at Rachel Carson Middle School.  The Digital Citizenship Expo provides parents with the opportunity to engage with the school community on how to facilitate discussions with students regarding Digital Citizenship and Internet Safety.

This year, parents may choose to have their older children (4th Grade and above) attend sessions with them.  Childcare will be available for children in kindergarten through 3rd grade with advanced reservations.  Please request childcare for the evening through this link by October 9th.

If you are interested in attending, please express your interest in this form.  Filling out the form is not required to attend, but it will help us prepare accordingly.

Elementary Parent Information Meeting for Advanced Academics

A parent information meeting will be held at Crossfield Elementary School on October 15, 6:30 – 7:30 PM in the cafeteria.  Melissa Graham, Crossfield’s Advanced Academic Resource Teacher, will provide information about, and examples of levels of service.  She will also explain and answer questions about the screening processes for part-time school-based and full-time Level IV services.  This is a meeting for parents and guardians only.
