Principal's Letter

Dear Waynewood Owls,

We have some exciting news!  Waynewood has many military connected families, and we are proud to announce that we have applied to be a Virginia Distinguished Purple Star School.  This designation is awarded to military friendly schools across Virginia.   We have several ways that we recognize our military families throughout the year.  Most notably, we have a wonderful ceremony and coffee in honor of Veterans Day, and we celebrate the month of the military child during the month of April.  We will find out if we will receive this designation sometime during the month of October, so we will keep you posted!

Next week will be our first backpack collection to provide children in need with breakfast & lunch for the weekends. This collection serves needy students at our school as well as surrounding schools.  Check out the attached flyer and be sure to send in a donation next week. Our collection box will be in the cafeteria.  We especially need protein items that will help to keep bellies full over the weekend.  The food drive will run from October 1-5.  Thank you for considering donating to our food drive!

We will be sending interims home next week in your child’s Wednesday folder.  Every child will receive an interim for the first quarter.  This is a communication tool between the home and school to inform you of how your child has transitioned to the new school year.  Please keep an eye out for the interim, review it with your child, then sign and return it to your child’s teacher.

Keep an eye open for the next News You Choose for a lot of information regarding Advanced Academic programs in FCPS.  I encourage you to read through it to garner a better understanding of how FCPS and Waynewood provide students with differentiated levels of service throughout their academic careers.

Sincerely,

Katie Cachine, Principal
