Dear Parents and Families,
Westfield High School is committed to providing our
students with a high quality education.
Academic success relies on excellent school attendance. Students who come to school on time every day
are building critical life skills they will use for the rest of their lives.
Did you know?
- Students who attend 90% or more of the school
year are more likely to graduate from high school on time.
- Even if a student is excused from school for
more than 10% of the school year, they adversely effect our accreditation
status with VDOE.
- A pattern of absences (whether unexcused or excused) is one of the main reasons students
have lower academic achievement.
Support is
available:
Westfield High School staff is committed to supporting
attendance. Additional attendance
related resources can be found online at http://www.fcps.edu/attendance. Mr. Kyle Laspe, our Dean of Students, is here
to help with attendance concerns, issues, or barriers. He can be reached at kclaspe@fcps.edu or 703-488-6342.
In compliance with Virginia state law and FCPS attendance
policies, Westfield High School will contact parents when your student has five
or more full day unexcused absences. If
you know in advance that your student will miss one or more days of school,
please contact the school or use the form at the link below:
https://www.fcps.edu/sites/default/files/media/forms/se289.pdf
You can log onto your Student Information System
(SIS) Parent Account to view
your child's attendance. For additional
support accessing and using the SIS Parent Account visit our SIS Parent Account overview page: https://www.fcps.edu/index.php/resources/technology/student-information-system-sis-fcps/sis-parent-account-overview
Also, please remember to call the attendance line at 703-488-6316 to report
all student absences. If the school is
not notified of the reason for your student’s absence within 48 hours, the
absence will automatically be recorded as an unexcused absence. When contacting
the school, please include your student’s name and the specific reason for the
absence.
We appreciate your partnership in this effort, and we will
provide more information throughout the year about the importance of school
attendance. Please feel free to contact Mr.
Laspe if you have attendance related questions.
Sincerely,
Anthony E. Copeland, PhD
Principal
