Dear Hughes Parents, Guardians, and Students,
.On June 14, the Fairfax County School Board updated the
dress code language in the Student Rights & Responsibilities regulation.
The School Board voted to remove gendered language in the dress code and
require that dress code conversations be held in private to respect the dignity
of the students.
FCPS respects students’ right to express themselves in
the way they dress. It is important, however, that their appearance is
appropriate for a K-12 school setting.
As outlined in the dress code, any clothing that
interferes with or disrupts the educational environment is unacceptable.
Clothing with language or images that are vulgar, discriminatory, or obscene;
or clothing that promotes illegal or violent conduct, such as gang symbols, the
unlawful use of weapons, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or drug paraphernalia; or
clothing that contains threats is prohibited.
More information about the dress code is available in
the FCPS Guide for Families section. More information can be accessed
here: https://www.fcps.edu/about-fcps/policies-regulations-and-notices/student-rights-and-responsibilities/video-and-resources
If you have any questions about the dress code, please
feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Aimée Monticchio
Principal
 KISS AND RIDE
·
Student safety is of the utmost importance. During arrival and
dismissal, Kiss & Ride should be approached from Soapstone with
drivers proceeding east on Ridge Heights Rd, toward South Lakes Drive.
·
In order to keep
the Kiss & Ride line running smoothly, parents are reminded to pull all the
way up to the last “No U Turn” sign and always at least pull up to the car in
front of them.
·
U-turns are
prohibited on Ridge Heights Rd within
800 feet of Hughes MS. There are official signs posted on both sides of Ridge
Heights.
·
The speed limit
on Ridge Heights is 25 MPH.
·
Please adhere to
the traffic laws, particularly as it pertains to the speed and illegal
U-turns, as you never know when there may be targeted enforcement.
·
Do not use the neighborhoods along Ridge Heights to turn
around or drop your children. These neighborhoods are private property and we
often get complaints from the community about this.
·
Thank you for your
cooperation in maintaining a safe environment for our Langston Hughes students.
