Thank YOU for Supporting Powell!

Thank you to all of our students, parents, teachers, and community members for the strong support shown for Powell through our PTA-sponsored Boosterthon Puma Fun Run! It was invigorating to feel the energy throughout the school in the days leading up to the run and it was a blast to watch all students engage in the run on Thursday.

Our Boosterthon will remain open for one additional week as we work toward our goal to raise $35,000. Please continue to seek pledges for the laps our students ran on Thursday. Logon to www.funrun.com to add more pledges.

To see additional pictures from this event and others please visit Twitter and Instagram. Information about all of our social media outlets are below.

Our students enjoyed watching the Fun Run Team spray the principals with silly string at the conclusion of each Puma Fun Run as we celebrated a successful fundraiser!

Curiosity Display in Ms. Gant's room

This week our students focused on the trait of CURIOSITY.

Ms. Gant's 2nd grade class charted all of the things they are curious about this week! Kudos to our "2nd Grade Captains of Curiosity" in room 221!

Individuals with a character strength of CURIOSITY like exploration and discovery. They ask lots of questions because they want to learn more about anything and everything.

The character strength for next week is TEAMWORK. To learn more about it check out the character card linked on our school website. You can find that HERE.

Spotlight on Powell Staff

Each week we will spotlight staff members in the Puma Press, and we will begin with staff members who joined the Powell family this year.  Please help us welcome these #ProudPumas . . .

Christy Collins, Special Education Teacher

I’m originally a native of New Orleans, Louisiana and fan of NFL Saints and LSU TIGERS!!!!  GEAUX TIGERS !!! I am proud to say that I have been a part of the Colin Powell family for 7 years now.  I was a Special Education Instructional Assistant at CPES for 5 years and decided to continue my education and work on a Master’s Degree in Special Education at George Mason University.  Two of my children were part of the CPES family and they have moved on to High School and Middle School.  They proudly state that their best memories have been at CPES.

Laura Mondragon, Special Education Teacher

I am a native of Texas (no, I don’t have a drawl) and consider Virginia home.  I love the Capitals and Nationals, yet forever will be a proud Dallas Cowboys fan!  My experience as an educator includes working with students in preschool through high school over the course of 13 years in three different school systems including two years in FCPS at Timber Lane Elementary. I began my at career at Powell Elementary school in San Antonio, Texas, and after four years as a stay at home mom I get a new start at Powell Elementary in Centreville, Virginia.  I am happy to return to FCPS and my daughter just joined the FCPS family since she just started kindergarten at Lees Corner Elementary.  My husband is excited to get swag from two schools in FCPS.  I am excited to be a Proud Puma!

Kiss & Ride Safety

With nearly 930 students at Powell ES we have hundreds of families entering the parking lot each morning and afternoon.  It is imperative drivers follow traffic rules and the established procedures to ensure the safety of all.

Our parking lot is designed with one point of access and one lane of traffic flow each way. It is not only dangerous, but illegal to drive down the wrong side of the road to by-pass the Kiss ‘N Ride line. Please help us keep everyone safe by following the rules of the road on the streets as well as in our parking lot.
