Chesterbrook News!
We were thrilled to see the turnout for our Donuts with Dad on Friday. It was wonderful to see the smiles on the faces of our children as dad brought them to school. While we would have loved to not have run out of donuts, we greatly appreciated how it was quickly turned around with a positive as a few dads shared they had already planned to go and get donuts afterschool with their child. It was equally great to see the large turnout for our 1st PTA meeting. Thank you for your support!
During the PTA meeting, we shared an update on staffing. Both of our 2nd grade Instructional Assistants are now in place. Welcome to Diane McCulla and Abigail Anderson. Additionally, we are finalizing a hire for a dining room assistant. We hope that individual will be training with us very soon.
As we begin our 4th week of instruction, teachers have assessed and are working to identify students that will require more support in reading and math. We utilize REACH time to help provide small group intervention to students to fill any gaps in curriculum. Gaps in content standards are identified through previous SOLs, beginning of the year assessments and classroom observations. Teachers will be sharing information if your child is in need of a targeted intervention.
We look forward to seeing everyone at our Back to School night this Thursday. More information will be coming in a separate email on Wednesday. It will include information on parking and more specific schedule information. There will be three 20 minute sessions to accommodate families with multiple children in different classes.
Have a wonderful week and be the reason someone smiles today!
Mrs. Kirkpatrick and Mrs. Britt
Attention 6th Grade Parents
Every 6th grade classroom needs more chaperones for the field trip to Hemlock. If you are interested please contact your child's homeroom teacher.

Elementary Parent Information Meeting A parent information meeting will be held at Chesterbrook on Thursday, September 27 at 6:00 – 7:00 in the Library. Mrs. Vallath, AART, will provide information about levels of service and examples at Chesterbrook, as well as explain and answer questions about the screening processes for part-time school-based services and full-time Level IV services.
Safety Drills
All FCPS schools are required to complete a number of safety drills during the first month of school. During the first 20 days of school we are required to complete 2 lockdown drills. This afternoon we completed our 2nd lock down drill. During the beginning of the school year we are also required to complete a weekly fire drill and one bus evacuation drill. Our kindergarteners and patrols have already prepared for their first school-wide bus evacuation drill which will be held in the first 30 days.
Our students have done an incredible job completing these drills by moving quickly and quietly to their designated location. As always, your child's safety is our number one priority and we take that very seriously.
Family
Life Education Instructional Program Information
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)
provides a comprehensive, sequential Family Life Education (FLE) program for students
in grades kindergarten through grade twelve. Instruction is seen as a partnership among
parents and guardians, the school, and the community in supporting the learning
essential to the development of strong families, positive relationships, and a
healthy community.
Parents/guardians may choose to opt
their child out of all or part of the Family Life Education program. Students who are opted out are provided with
age-appropriate, nonpunitive alternative health instruction, and every effort
is made to foster respect for family choices. If you wish to opt your child out of all or
part of FLE for this school year, opt out forms will be included in your
child’s back-to-school/orientation packets and are available online for Elementary

Please fill in the opt-out form and return it to your child’s school
prior to Family Life Education instruction.
