Positivity Project: #OtherPeopleMatter
Beginning this week we will begin to learn to understand and appreciate the 24 character strengths that are in all of us by investigating #OtherPeopleMatter.
“If you're not making someone else's life better, then you're wasting your time. Your life will become better by making other lives better.” – Will Smith
The mission of The Positivity Project is to empower YOU to build strong relationships, by understanding, appreciating, and living out the 24 character strengths in us all.
Every 1-2 weeks you will learn about a different character strength. This knowledge will help you build strong relationships with other people.
Please ask your students about the Other People Matter Mindset this week! Click here for a link to a video to learn more.
Questions you might enjoy talking about.
- What strengths are you most excited to learn about?
- How do you think learning about these strengths will help you understand yourself and others?
- Why is it important?
- How do I live with this mindset?
- How do other people live with this mindset?

Family Life Education (FLE) Curriculum Opt-Out
Fairfax County Public Schools' (FCPS) Family Life Education (FLE) curriculum is taught in grades K-12. Lessons include age-appropriate instruction in family living and community relationships, abstinence education, the value of postponing sexual activity, the benefits of adoption as a positive choice in the event of an unwanted pregnancy, and human sexuality and human reproduction. Instruction is designed to promote parental involvement, foster positive self-concepts, and provide coping mechanisms for dealing with peer pressure and the stresses related to the students' developmental stages and abilities.
Parents have the right to review the complete family life curricula, including all supplemental materials used in any family life education program. Parents may remove their child(ren) from any FLE lessons at a particular grade level and alternative, non-FLE lessons will be made available to those students. In addition, school divisions are required to establish an advisory committee with broad community representation to review and make recommendations regarding the FLE content. A description of the student lessons taught can be accessed at: https://www.fcps.edu/academics/elementary-family-life-education-fle.
 Universal Screener: i-Ready
The Fairfax County Public Schools School Board adopted an online, computer-adaptive assessment universal screener assessment for use with all elementary school students in grades 1-6. The purpose of this assessment is to identify students who may have gaps in foundational literacy and mathematics skills so that teachers can plan supports appropriate for each child.
Additional information, including a short video, about the universal screener in FCPS can be found at this webpage: https://www.fcps.edu/node/33718
