Cameron Elementary School Updates

Photo of several students reading on the carpet
The best way to improve in reading is to read widely and often. Second graders get a chance to read in a comfortable setting, with a variety of books to choose from. This class worked on their stamina to read independently, getting up to 20 minutes of uninterrupted, silent reading time during this session.

      Make Plans for Inclement Weather

PLEASE DO NOT PHONE THE SCHOOL!!!!!

When Fairfax County Public Schools have a schedule change (closing or delay) due to inclement weather or other emergencies, the information is communicated as soon as the decision is made in these ways:

      1. Posted on www.fcps.eduNote: In the case of emergency for a weather-related closing, delay, or early dismissal, the FCPS website will automatically include an alert at the top of each page with the appropriate information. This information will remain posted until normal operations have resumed, or you click "Close This Alert" to remove it.
      2. Posted to the FCPS Twitter and Facebook pages.
      3. Email and text messages sent to parents and employees.
      4. Email sent to News You Choose subscribers of Delayed Openings and School Closings.
      5. Posted on FCPS cable Channel 21 (Cox Communications, Reston Comcast, and Verizon cable customers only).
      6. Area radio and television stations.
      7. REMEMBER, Cameron is a Fairfax County Public School

Parents are urged to make arrangements now for the care of their children when schedule changes are made (and to provide for the rare situation when it is necessary to close an individual school because of a power failure or other circumstances). Children should know where to go or what to do if a parent will not be at home.

Update to 2018-19 Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R) Booklet

The 2018-19 Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R): A Guide for Families provides expectations for student behavior in schools, allowing for a positive learning environment. The SR&R is divided into two primary sections, the family guide and the appendices.

Located in the front of the book, the family guide draws attention to information crucial for a successful school experience. The family guide section has been updated since the original print version was distributed to stress the importance of maintaining students’ dignity by holding dress code violation discussions in private, and can be viewed at the link below. This change aligns with changes made in the regulation by the School Board this year.

The appendices, located in the rear of the book, include regulation 2601.32, which provides direction to school leaders when addressing SR&R violations.

More information about the 2018-19 Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R): A Guide for Families is available online.

Paper applications must be the original red print forms, which are available at school offices, school cafeterias, and other FCPS buildings. Copied application forms cannot be accepted.
