From the Principal's Desk....

Cheer

Dear Fairfax,

HAPPY FRIDAY!  I kind of want to write “FRIYAY” because it has been such a good week!  I have to admit, though, I was worried that the students would be disappointed that they didn’t have a band playing as they entered the building in the morning or an assembly with dancing staff members.    They were great, and the smiles are enough to keep you energized and excited all day!

Last night, I was so proud to meet and reconnect with so many parents at our Back to School Night.  It felt a little like a Homecoming in a lot of ways, and I feel so fortunate that I am able to continue to serve our students, staff, and this community.   Speaking of community, it was fun to see our golf team playing on a rather-hot Wednesday, but they were ON FIRE!  Top that off with a field hockey and football game today/tonight and a cross-country meet tomorrow, and it is easy to be #FHSProud.

I had my first coffee this morning, and there was some concern brought up about the amount of “pep” from last Friday, and then how it was handled by our leadership team. I assured our parents that we have reviewed our protocols and practices and worked with student leadership to discuss alternative ways our students can show their excitement for their peers (than throwing food and water bottles).  My hope is that our students, staff, and community feel both supported and safe when they are acting as their most-spirited selves, and we are hoping that some of our supervisory shifts will help that to happen.  Also,  I trust in the student leadership’s desire to ensure that a good time is had by all who attend. It is their commitment to their peers and our school that will serve as, probably, the biggest influencer of energy, enthusiasm, and responsible celebration.

Unfortunately due to expected heavy rainfall tomorrow, we are postponing our community outreach meet and greet visit to Oakton Park.  We will let you know when the event is rescheduled.

Thank you for your continued support, your energy, and your enthusiasm!

FHS BANDS TAG DAY

Please support the FHS Bands' TAG Day this Saturday from 9 to 3pm.  The students will be coming door to door to ask for your financial support of the band program.  Your contribution will allow us to purchase new music, replace/repair band instruments, maintain/buy new uniforms & equipment, and provide transportation to competitions. Please consider helping us sustain our high-quality band program.  Any amount would be greatly appreciated, THANK YOU!

SAT & ACT Practice Tests

On Saturday, September 22, the Fairfax High School Academic Boosters will again be partnering with Applerouth Tutoring to offer Mock SAT and ACT exams.

This is a perfect opportunity for students who haven’t started their testing to become familiar with the format in a stress-free environment.  We will also offer the Mock ACT for students who have already taken the SAT and wish to see if the ACT might be right for them.

Students are encouraged to take a practice test before attempting the actual exam.  They may select either the SAT or the ACT practice test.  At the Score Giveback, students will receive detailed score reports to help them determine which areas they need to study.

Test Date:  Saturday, September 22, 8:00 am, Fairfax HS, Price: $25

Score Giveback:  Tuesday, October 2, 7:00 – 8:00 pm, at Fairfax HS
