It was great to see so many parents last night at Back to
School Night! We really appreciate all
the ways you support the efforts of our teachers. We strongly believe that working
collaboratively with families is the best way to support our students to learn
and grow.
Next week is Safety Week at Waynewood. We have already begun practicing our fire
drills, and have successfully completed two fire drills so far this year. We will be practicing all of our safety
drills during Safety Week so that we are prepared for anything that may
arise. Classroom teachers will be
teaching and reviewing safety procedures for each drill. The schedule for the week is as follows:
Monday, September 10-Fire
Drill (weather permitting)
Tuesday, September 11-Tornado
Drill
Wednesday, September
12-Lockdown Drill
Thursday, September
13 –Fire Drill Make Up Day (In the case of inclement weather)
Friday, September 14 –Earthquake Drill (I
know, I know, but…hey, we had one once!)
Please note that if you come to school when we are
conducting a drill, you may not be allowed in right away, and you may need to
wait until the drill is completed. We are not trying to keep you out, but we
want to follow all our safety procedures and protocols, as if it is a real
scenario.
It is a great idea to reflect with your child each day regarding
the drills and safety procedures that we follow at school.
We are adding a new feature to our Friday newsletter, the
Staff Spotlight. Each week we will
introduce you to a different Waynewood staff member. Our goal is for you to get to know our staff
and their role in our school. We hope
you enjoy this new feature!
Have a great weekend.
Next week will be our first full week of school!
Sincerely,
Katie Cachine, Principal
Alice Berenbaum, Assistant Principal

Riding a bike to school has many wonderful health benefits,
and we are glad to see so many children riding bikes each day. If your child rides their bike, please be
sure to remind them frequently regarding bicycle safety. Students must wear a helmet when operating a
bike. They must walk their bike until they leave school property, due to the
large number of pedestrians. Dismissal can be a dangerous time, as there are
many cars, buses, and walkers. Please advise your little bicyclist regarding
the rules of the road, and remind them to check for cars before entering a
roadway. Thanks for your help!
