What a wonderful beginning to the year.  We hope your students have settled in and are enjoying the 2018-19 school year.  The smiles, hugs and kindness of our students have shown has been the best welcome to Chesterbrook.

Students have now been playing on the playground, acclimated to their new classes and taken beginning of the year assessments. They also have participated in our Students Rights & Responsibilities lesson.  Next week, students in grades 2 - 6 may begin switching classes to begin core content and dive deep into the curriculum.  All in all, we are off to a great start!

We wish everyone a wonderful, restful weekend and look forward to seeing your students on Monday.

Sincerely,

Stacy Kirkpatrick, Principal

Connie Britt, Assistant Principal

School Theme:  Be the Reason someone smiles today!

During teacher workweek the Chesterbrook staff discussed one of the key elements of a great school, Caring Culture.  Around this focus, we sought a theme that would guide our thinking and practices this school year.  The staff voted on Be the Reason someone smiles today. We encourage this within our community and hope you will join us in being the reason someone smiles today!  Students are catching kindness and sharing ways they will care about others.  When you are at Chesterbrook, we encourage you to catch kindness and also be the reason someone smiles!

Green Slips

Parents are welcome to complete a green slip if their child has a change in plans to go home afterschool.  Please complete this by 2:30 so we complete requests and provide this information to your child's teacher.

Afternoon Pickup

If you need to pickup your child for an early release, it needs to be done before 3PM or wait for dismissal at 3:30.  Students will not be called out of class between 3 - 3:30.  The office and our classrooms become quite busy at the very end of the day which makes it difficult to release students while preparing for dismissal.  If there is an emergency, we treat that as a special situation and are happy to assist in getting your child from class.

Birthday Celebrations

Our student birthdays are very important to us and we love celebrating this special day with them.  Students will receive a pencil from the principal on their birthday or as close to their birthday as possible.  We have student's with life threatening allergies and do not allow birthday treats to be brought into the classroom.  Kindergarten students will follow the class snack policy.  Additionally, no birthday invitations should be distributed through school.  We encourage parents to join the PTA where they can gain access to our directory so birthday invitations can be sent by mail.

Classroom Snacks

We wanted to put remind everyone of our Nut Free Classroom policy.  All classroom spaces in our building are nut free and you will find signs outside our rooms indicating this safety measure.  Please do not send any nut products or products produced in a plant with nuts.  We appreciate your support keeping our students safe.  Students may eat nut products at lunch in the cafeteria.

Drop off and Pickup

Thank you for working to keep our student's safe and providing a smooth start to the school year.  During dismissal we have asked parents to wait outside in front of the school for their students.  The front entry should be clear to allow our students to exit the building.  Parents needing additional assistance are welcome to come into the office.

2nd Grade Staffing

This year our 2nd grade is a bit larger than anticipated.  In order to accommodate our students needs, the county has provided additional staffing for 2 IAs to support two of our slightly larger classes.  We are thrilled to welcome Mrs. Diane McCulla to our staff this week and we look forward to announcing our second hire as soon as they are able to begin.  Our IAs will support Mrs. Schulter and Mrs. Butler's classes.  Currently we have been blessed to have Mrs. Nicola Noll and Mrs. McCulla supporting our students as they start the year.
