Dear CES,
We had a wonderful week here at CES! Our second successful fire drill was completed this morning. Remember, we are required to complete one each of the first 4 weeks of school. We capped off the week with a school wide Positive Pep Rally. The students and staff had a fabulous time celebrating an amazing start to the 2018-2019 school year!
Please remember that our building does not open until 9:00 am. Students should not be arriving before 8:55 am unless they are patrols or have a reason to be here early. Siblings of patrols or club members (Green Team, etc) should not be dropped off before the designated time. We are concerned about students standing outside longer than necessary, especially as the weather starts turning colder. Thank you for your cooperation.
If you would like to receive more information and pictures from CES, please follow us on Facebook & Twitter.

Tonight is the annual PTA sponsored Welcome Back Picnic. We hope to see many of you there celebrating CES and our wonderful community. The CES PTA is the BEST! We are thankful to have such a supportive PTA board. Thanks to them, we are able to provide our students with a variety of field trips and culturally diverse programs. If you haven't already done so, please consider joining and supporting the PTA.
We held our first Lockdown Drill of the year on Thursday and your children did a brilliant job with this drill. We will have another lockdown drill on Friday, September 14. In order to meet the requirements of the Amended Code of Virginia 22.1-137.2, lockdown drills must be conducted at least four times each school year. A lockdown requires that all students and staff remain in classrooms or other designated secure locations that are away from danger and that minimize access and visibility. During the drill, signs will be posted on the entrance doors indicating the school is in lockdown. No one will be allowed into the school at this time. Similar procedures would be followed in a real situation.

We are starting a new Birthday Celebration Initiative here at CES. The flyer below will be distributed to your students. Please talk with them and determine how they would like to celebrate their birthday at school. We appreciate your support with this initiative.
Calendar Reminder: Students to Be Released
Three Hours Early on September 19
All students will be released three hours

We will continue our journey with the Positivity Project this year at CES! The mission of The Positivity Project is to empower students to build strong relationships -- by understanding, appreciating, and living out the 24 character strengths in us all. Please ask your students about the Other People Matter Mindset next week! Click here for a link to a video to learn more.
Update to 2018-19
Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R) Booklet
The 2018-19 Student Rights and Responsibilities
(SR&R): A Guide for Families provides expectations for student behavior in
schools, allowing for a positive learning environment. The SR&R is divided
into two primary sections, the family guide and the appendices.
Located in the front of the book, the family
guide draws attention to information crucial for a successful school experience.
The family guide section has been updated since the original
print version was distributed to stress the importance of maintaining
students’ dignity by holding dress code violation discussions in private,
and can be viewed at the link below. This change aligns with changes made in
the regulation by the School Board this year.
The appendices, located in the rear of the
book, include regulation 2601.32, which provides direction to school leaders
when addressing SR&R violations.

Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R): A Guide for Families is available
