Woodson Weekly is published every Friday to provide the community with important information about school life at W.T. Woodson.

Please note that tonight's WTW varsity football game at Langley HS has been changed to 6:00 p.m. The Cavalry theme for tonight is camo.
Attendance Reminders
If your son/daughter is going to be absent from school, please call the attendance office at 703-503-4800. When leaving a message, please speak slowly and clearly and spell your child's first and last name.
For excused late arrivals (for example, a medical appointment), please complete this Check-In Form or write a note that includes the date, student name, reason for late arrival, parent signature and contact number. When your son/daughter arrives at school, they must bring the Check-In Form or note to the Attendance Office to receive an excused tardy pass to class.
For early dismissals, please complete this Check-Out Form or write a note that includes the student name, date and time, and reason for early check-out, parent signature and contact number. Students must bring the note to the Attendance Office by 9:45 a.m. to receive a pink check-out pass. At the time of dismissal, your son/daughter will bring the pink check-out pass back to the Attendance Office for verification before meeting you outside.
There will be no unannounced early dismissals within 15 minutes of school dismissal.

Food Deliveries
No commercial food deliveries can be made to Woodson
students during the school day. This includes deliveries from local restaurants
and delivery services like Uber Eats and Grubhub. If food is
delivered, the student cannot pick it up until dismissal.
If your child forgets his/her lunch, food may
be dropped off by a family member to Woodson's Main
Office for student pickup.

Senior Parent Night
Senior Parents - Come to the Auditorium on Wednesday, September 12th at 7:00 p.m. to learn important information about the college application process and scholarship opportunities.
There will be a Cav Cruise table outside the auditorium
before the meeting selling Class of 2019 Graduate yard signs and raffle tickets for graduation seats. They will also be taking
donations and registering your Seniors for their celebration event of
the year - the All Night Grad Party we call Cav Cruise. Check out

College Financial Aid Night
Parents will have the opportunity to learn about paying for college from a college financial aid officer on Wednesday,
September 26th at 7:00 p.m. in the Auditorium. You will learn what is required and how the information you provide is
interpreted.
Be prepared
and informed!! Spanish translation will be available.

PSAT Registration
On Wednesday, October 10th, all students in grades 9, 10 and 11 will
take a standardized test during a four-hour morning session at
Woodson High School.
Ninth (9th) grade students will take the PSAT 8/9. Tenth
(10th) and eleventh (11th) grade students will take the PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary
Scholastic Aptitude Test). The cost of testing will be funded by FCPS for all
ninth (9th) and tenth (10th) grade students.
Eleventh (11th) grade students are required to pay $20.00 for their test if
they wish to receive test score results. Students who may be eligible for a fee
waiver should consult their counselor. Students who do NOT pay are still
expected to take the test. The test fee will be collected by mail or in person by Mrs. Hyatt in Student Services (with the
completed form linked below). Payment is due by Monday, September 24th.
Please complete this registration form and return your payment in an envelope to
Ms. Hyatt. Checks should be made payable to “W.T. Woodson HS.” Please make sure
that the student’s first name and last name are printed clearly on the check’s
memo line. If you are writing a check for more than one student, please enclose
both forms and ensure all students’ names are on the memo line of your check.
Results will be distributed electronically by the College Board with an
access code emailed in January.

SIS Gradebook
The gradebook module in SIS ParentVUE and StudentVUE will open on Monday, September 10th at 6:00 a.m. On Monday, you will be able to view grades for assignments for each class on your student's schedule.

 Car Magnets
New W.T. Woodson car magnets are now available for purchase. These magnets are 5 3/4" in diameter and can be purchased on MySchoolBucks and then picked up in the Main Office.
Partners for Safe Teen Driving Seminars
Attention all 10th grade students and their parents. All new drivers and parents must attend a state mandated traffic safety seminar, Partners for Safe Teen Driving. Please mark your calendar for the Woodson seminars for 2018-2019. Seminars will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will take place in the Woodson Auditorium.

10th Annual Asha-Jyothi 5k and 1k Fun Run
Celebrate health and wellness and have some fun

CavHack
Registration is open for Cav Hack: A Woodson Hackathon! This free event will take place in Woodson's Cav Hall on
Saturday, September 29th from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.
At CavHack,
students will have an amazing opportunity to learn coding and
explore application development.
This program is for students from a variety of technological
backgrounds - especially girls who may feel under-represented in this field.
No previous coding experience is required. Having basic knowledge of computer science will help students tremendously
later on as technology is gaining influence in numerous careers.

Registration is
now open for the 5th annual FCPS Mental
Health and Wellness Conference.
For the first time, the
conference will also include an Our Minds Matter Teen
Summit for middle and high school students, sponsored by the Josh Anderson
Foundation.
The free event will be held on Saturday, September 29th, at Fairfax
HS, from 8 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Dr. Brabrand will open the conference,
and Dr. Amy Przeworski, associate professor in the Department of
Psychological Sciences at Case Western Reserve University, will present the
keynote message: Using Stress to Your Advantage in Achieving Academic Success
and Emotional Well Being.
Attendees will be able to choose from 35 breakout sessions.
Additionally, there will be over 50 resource tables representing public and
private agencies who provide wellness-related services within our schools and
