FROST NEWS & NOTES

Join the PTA!   PTA membership is the lifeblood of the organization and reflects a healthy school.   Membership represents over 20% of our budget which we return to Frost Middle School in the form of teacher program grants.  You can join PTA on line at: http://frostmspta.org/membership.html

First PTA Meeting of the Year! The first PTA meeting of the school year is on Wednesday 12 Sept, 9:00am featuring “Meet Anthony Harris, our new Frost MS principal” and approval of the PTA budget.

Back to School Night is THIS week!  Back to school night is Thursday August 30th at 6:30pm for both 7th and 8th grades.

Scicence Olympiad is coming to Frost!  Would you like to foster your child’s interest Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM)?

  • Is your child willing to work with others and win medals?
  • Would your child like to build a roller coaster or hovercraft that actually works?
  • Would your child like to learn how to solve a crime, evaluate water quality, or design an experiment?
  • Is your child secretly a “mad scientist” in their spare time?
  • Does your child love to read about physics, lizards, lasers, experiments, biology, or outer space?

If “yes”, then your family may be interested in Science Olympiad B Competition and After School Club every Friday from 2:30-4:30.  Click here for flyer:  https://docs.google.com/document/d/1zW3wiT0VCHaXNACe1B2u6fRC6nFRI1ys4FNxBZdbve8/edit

Volunteers NEEDED!:  Frost runs on volunteers and we are in serious need of people to help out this year!  Most of these positions are very easy jobs and can even be done with a friend!  If you are interested in any of the following committee positions please contact Mik at Miklos.kiss@cox.net

  • Restaurant Nights:  Setting up fundraising dinner nights at local establishments like Potbelly, Chipotle, Flipping Pizza, Chick-Fil-A.

  • Spirit Wear Co-Chair:  Helping order, sell, and develop on-line sales of Frost “branded” items.

  • Book Fair:  Arranging parent volunteer help on Sign-up Genius to sell books at the Library during the book fair.
  •  Clinic Health Parent Aide: Coordinate volunteers for the 7th grade health screenings in October, and to serve as a sub when the nurse is out. When not filled, it just requires someone else to create a sign-up genius and publicize it.

  • Frost Family Festival (3F):  This is a joint event ran by the school and PTA that invites rising sixth graders and their families to visit Frost and preview courses and electives in the Spring.  The 3F coordinator helps publicize the event and manage food sales and baked goods donation.

  • Reflections Program:  This is a Virginia and National PTA program that invites students to create submissions in the following categories: dance, film, literature, music, composition, photography, and visual arts.   The coordinator promotes the program, manages the process, solicits judges, notify winners, and send winners to the Regional Level.

  • Eight Grade End of Year Celebration:  This is the end of year gala event held on a Friday night in June.   We have two DJs, food, and carnival games.

TJHSST Admissions

Will your child be applying to TJHSST?  If so, then please attend the TJHSST Admissions Office Information Session in the Frost MS cafeteria on Monday, September 24 from 2:30-3:30PM.  Parents and students are welcome to attend this event. This will be the first day that Frost late buses will run, so bus riders attending without their parents will have a ride home.  TJHSST is the FCPS regional governor’s high school (grades 9-12) for students interested in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math). Come learn about the programs, classes offered and student life.  Also get detailed information about Admissions and Application for 8th grade students.  The Application Window is open from September 3rd  at 4:00PM to September 28th at 4:00PM.  If you have questions, please contact TJ Admissions via email at tjadmassions@fcps.edu, by phone at 571-423-3770 or visit the website at www.TJAdmissions.org.  Hope to see you on September 24th!
