Dear Glen Forest Families,
Welcome back to another exciting and fun-packed school year! We have many family-oriented activities
planned throughout the year to bring our community together, and on Tuesday,
your children will bring home a “Special Events” magnet for your refrigerator.
Mark your calendars now!
This week we had a wonderful opening and it’s great to have
the halls full of children’s laughter again! As we shared at our Open
House/Back-to-School Event, Glen Forest is once again fully-accredited with our
accreditation rates in reading and math in the 90’s! We are so proud of our students and staff
members! In addition, after focusing
last year on student absenteeism, students with chronic absenteeism and miss
10% of the year (2 or more days each month) decreased significantly by
30%! As data indicates, children who
miss this much of school fail to read and do math on grade level and have a
higher rate of failing to graduate from high school. So, thank you for making sure your children
come to school every day ready to learn!
This year to ensure the safety of our students, we have made changes to
our dismissal procedures and we need your assistance! At the end of the day, there are 3 ways for
your children to be dismissed. (1) Take the bus home and exit from the front of
the building, (2) Go to Kiss-and-Ride and get a ride home, or (3) Walk home or
walk to a car with their guardian.
Starting next week, if you want to pick up your children on a regular
basis, please go to Door 4 (near our Kindergarten wing and facing our modular)
where all walkers will wait for their parent/guardian. This will help alleviate the additional crowd
of adults and children waiting at the front door which impacts our students as
they exit the building heading to their buses.
For those that park and walk up to the school, we would recommend using
Kiss-and-Ride as having more cars parked on Glen Forest Drive just increases
the delay for our buses and car riders.
Thank you for adhering to these changes!
We hope everyone has a wonderful Labor Day weekend and that you will
join us next Friday, September 7th for our 9th Annual
Back to School Family Picnic on the field from 6-730 pm.
Sincerely,
Cynthia Choate
Principal
