 #WillowPride
Dear Willow Springs Community,
Welcome to the 2018-19 school year! We
have enjoyed welcoming all 1,017 students back to school this week! The energy has been amazing and our very own Willow mascot has been spotted several times this week in our hallways, on the morning news, and even greeting students in the bus loop! The first week of school went well and both students & teachers were able to engage in meaningful conversations and build positive relationships. We are already hard at work bringing our vision to life in all that we do: Encourage lifelong learners to connect, create, and thrive in a global society.
Teachers have been encouraged to share their
welcome videos and a picture with their students during the first week of school
with the goal of building strong relationships and classroom community. We invite you to also share a #WillowPride story and join us as we tell our story together this year! Learn more about @WSESfox here.
We are still heavily recruiting for band and strings, and have
extended registration through Wednesday. Check out the link below!
Sincerely,
Dylan Taylor, Principal

The First of Many Successful Fire Drills
We continue to focus on practicing routines. During the first month of school, we spend time ensuring student safety in case of an emergency. This week, our students and staff successfully completed a fire drill. We know that training helps ensure a calmer, more effective outcome in the event of an emergency. We believe it is always best to be prepared.

Willow Springs Families Making the World A Better Place
My name is Mira Singh. I am a part of the WS alumni,
and my brother Ryan Singh is currently in 5th grade at
WS. While a student at WS, I joined Girl Scout Troop 3827 and was happy
to learn more about, and participate in, community service activities in our
local area.
Today,
I have an opportunity to reach out to a larger community and help in a way that
means a lot to me, and I’m sure to others as well who are young students like
me. My aunt, Suzanne Maxwell, has taken time off from her work in the
US to teach English at a school called Jain Bharati Mrigavati Vidyalaya,
located just outside of New Delhi, India. You can learn more about the
school and the types of students the school tries to help by visiting http://www.jainbharati.com/. During her stay there, Suzanne has learned that at the classroom level, a large
group of the underprivileged students are lacking in basic school
supplies, resulting in challenges for both Suzanne and the students that make
learning less effective.
Will you and your WS student please join me in donating basic
school supplies towards this effort? My goal is to collect two
suitcases worth of supplies and then ship them to the school in India. I
am asking for pencils, erasers, pens, notebooks, notepads, crayons, markers, small
white boards, etc. The supplies can be of any brand, and can be new or even
slightly used.
There will be a collection box in the main lobby August
27 through September 7.
In addition, I am also raising $250 to covering the cost of
shipping these supplies to India. I am requesting individual
donations of between $5 to $20. If you are interested in making a
monetary donation, please contact my mother, Romila Singh at romilaj@hotmail.com or send her a text at
703-362-4493.
Thank
you in advance for your contribution! Your support means a lot to the
students at the school, my aunt Suzanne, and to me. I am hoping that this
effort will be start of an ongoing process to support the needy students
at that school and also elsewhere.
