First Tuesday Information

Dear Columbia Families,

Mrs. Patel, Columbia’s assistant principal, and I extend a warm welcome to all Columbia families. We are looking forward to a wonderful year working with you and your children as we build on Columbia’s current best practices and academic successes.

Thank you all for your patience and support as we navigate the establishment of routines.  As a reminder, parents will not be permitted to walk to the classroom tomorrow.  Our routines need to be established quickly to support student learning.

A note about transportation:

This morning we had a great arrival and Mr. Lewis shared with us that Kiss N Ride went extremely well with everyone following the process we shared in a mailing.  It is important that we continue to remember to slow down and focus our attention to the pedestrians who are in the area.  It is our responsibility as a community to ensure the safety of ALL our students by following established routines and focusing our undivided attention on driving safely in our neighborhood.  We appreciate your support in ensure the safe arrival and dismissal of our students regardless of the mode of transportation. We appreciate your patience as transportation adjusts due to traffic and unexpected delays the first few days of school.  We have provided additional information in this .gov regarding transportation and other items of interest.

Kindergarten parents, please remember to greet your child at the bus stop.  Students not greeted by a parent will be returned to school.

Columbia’s staff members, Mrs. Patel and I welcome your help this year, and we hope to see you involved in the many activities that will be occurring in the coming months.  Please feel free to contact your child’s teacher, me, or any other staff if we can be of assistance.

Mr. Michael Cunningham & Mrs. Rekha Patel

 Arrival and dismissal procedures.

The procedures are in place for the safety of all students arriving and departing Columbia Elementary School.  Columbia has over 500 students arriving and departing daily.  Please listen to and support the staff managing the implementation of these procedures; Student safety is our number one concern and we need your support.  There are three modes of transportation: walking, buses, and cars.  Our goal is to facilitate this process while meeting the needs of the various modes of transportation.  Please follow these simple procedures to ensure the safety of all students regardless of mode of transportation.

WALKERS:

  • Use designated crosswalks.
