A note from Dr. Goodloe:
Dear Rocky Run students, staff and families:
Welcome to the 2018-19 school year! We are excited to welcome all of our 1300 students back to school tomorrow, August 28, 2018. We promise the year will be filled with outstanding learning experiences and activities as we focus on bringing the Rocky Run MS Vision to life in all that we do: Raise the Ram: Together we create opportunities for personal growth and positive impact on our dynamic world.
We have kicked off our year as a staff sharing our own stories of learning and middle school. Teachers have been encouraged to share their middle school story and a picture with their students the first week of school with the goal of building strong relationships and classroom community. I encourage you to share a middle school story with your own child as well. You can see my middle school picture, 8th grade at Franklin MS, 1987 below. #storiesmatter Please view a video welcome message here.
I welcome your feedback, questions, and ideas. Please feel free to reach out to me at any time. I look forward to seeing you at Rocky Run MS very soon!
Sincerely,
Amy T. Goodloe, Ed.D

Lockers, Backpacks, and School Supplies
Rocky Run MS Students are permitted to carry backpacks to and from classes. Students should plan visits to their lockers for times such as before and after school and lunchtime to minimize transitions.
For the first day of school, students DO NOT need all of their school supplies. Students should come prepared with a notebook and a writing utensil for the first day of school. Teachers will share classroom supply lists throughout the first week of school.
Transportation To and From School
Students should access their assigned bus or walking route to get to and from school each day. If you choose to use Kiss and Ride, please make note that the traffic through the bus loop becomes very heavy after 7:05 AM. DO NOT park in the staff parking lots to drop students off for school.
Walkers and Bike Riders
Walking paths from surrounding neighborhoods are open! Students who live on walking streets are encouraged to walk or ride their bikes to Rocky Run MS.
Buses
All families received bus information through email messages and phone calls directly from the FCPS Transportation office. Parents and students can also use MapNet via Blackboard FCPS 24-7 Learning to access bus stop information and approximate times for pickup and drop off. Students will see the link for transportation when they log in to their Blackboard FCPS 24-7 Learning accounts. Students are expected to ride their assigned bus and should arrive at the bus stop approximately five to ten minutes before the indicated arrival time of the bus.
Bus Delay Notification System
Parents may access the following link https://busdelay.fcps.edu/ or the FCPS Mobile App to receive the delayed bus report. Morning route information will be available through 12 p.m. The afternoon route information will be updated from 1 p.m. through 5 p.m. It is normal to expect a high volume of delays the first week of school. This system will be active on August 28th. Both KIT and Bus Delay Notification systems will run simultaneously until further notice.
Kiss and Ride
Kiss and Ride drop off can be accessed from two locations. Parents will take a right turn off Poplar Tree Road or a right turn off Stringfellow Road. Follow all traffic signs and be aware of the crossing guard posted at Stringfellow Road and Poplar Tree Road. For the safety of all students and drivers, students are only to be dropped on the curb starting in front of the cafeteria. All parents must depart the Kiss and Ride by taking a right onto Stringfellow Road. Students who arrive after 7:30 AM due to Kiss and Ride delays are considered tardy for school and must report to the office prior to the start of their first class of the day.
