Orange Hunt News We HOOT

We are back in action!  Staff and students spent time getting to know each other and found many ways to share.  It feels like we never left. Look out 2018-2019 school year, we are READY for an AMAZING year of learning!

Thank you, Thank You, Thank You!!!

We are so thankful for the teamwork between families and staff as we have opened this school year.  We continue to adjust things as we settle into the 2018-2019 school year!

Parent Homework

Parents please check Tuesday folders for important information that will need to be returned to school.  It is extremely important to check all contact information.  This is our way to  contact you in case of an emergency.

Emergency Care Cards

An Emergency Care Card will be sent home on Wednesday, September 29, 2018.  We did send many other important forms will be sent home in the Tuesday folder today.   Please return all required forms by Friday, August 31st.  Returning FCPS students will receive a pre-printed Emergency Care Card.  Please update any information by crossing out incorrect information and replacing it with the correct information.  If no information has changed, just sign and return the form.

For your convenience, many FCPS forms, such as the Emergency Care form and medication forms are online (http://www.fcps.edu/forms.shtml).    This will save time if you need to complete forms for more than one child.  Once you print the form for one child, click “reset” and all the parent information will remain the same.

What do we focus on in the first few weeks?

  • Creating a classroom community. Each morning begins with a Morning Meeting/ Positivity Project where students learn about the character traits and share in an activity or discussion.
  • Learning routines and procedures. The more students can transition quickly and be independent with things like getting materials, the more time there is for learning. Teachers take the time at the beginning of the year to teach routines so that all students understand what is expected of them.
  • Being safe. We have a fire drill each week for the first 4 weeks and 2 lockdown drill. Safety is always our number one priority, even over academics. We practice how to respond quickly, quietly and safely.
  • Assessing students. In order to best instruct our students, we need to know how they learn. We have a variety of assessments to see how students approach different math problems and how they read. This year, all students in FCPS will take an assessment called iReady during week September. It's a short assessment on the computer that gives teachers information about reading and math skills.
