Dear Parents and Guardians,
What a great first week of school it has been! I am so proud
of our returning students as they immediately transitioned into new classroom
procedures and routines and oriented our new students to Oak Hill! Staff
was excited to greet their new students and get to know them a little more
during morning meetings. Mr. Credle and I have enjoyed visiting
classrooms and introducing ourselves to all of our new students. We look
forward to seeing all of you over the next two evenings at our Back to School
Nights! Please refer to the schedule posted in this email. You may
report directly to your child’s classroom and specialists will be available in
the lobby if you have specific questions about the discipline they
teach. Thank you for understanding that teacher presentations are only
for adults. Our BTSN presentations are the only evenings that we ask
children not to accompany you to Oak Hill.
Please let me know if there is anything I can do to further
support your child’s learning and experience at Oak Hill. My door is
always open!
Sincerely,
Holly DeVore, Principal

Volunteers for both school sponsored and PTA sponsored activities are welcome and needed at Oak Hill. There are both at school and at home opportunities to volunteer with various time commitments. We would love to have you join us! Volunteer guidelines will be discussed at Back-to-School Night. Below are the highlights.
-
A volunteer does not discuss confidential information. Confidential information includes, but is not limited to: scholastic and health records, test scores and grade, discipline problems within a classroom or during an activity, and character traits of an individual child. A volunteer does not discuss such matters with friends, neighbors or other volunteers.
- A volunteer supports the staff by following school-wide or classroom regulations regarding student behavior.
- A volunteer must be dependable and consistent in order to provide the maximum benefit of such assistance. Phone the school well in advance to inform the staff member when you will not be able to assist at the assigned time. Phone the PTA committee chair well in advance when you will be unable to help with an assigned PTA function.
First week going well at Oak Hill!
This week teachers have begun distributing laptops to students. They will be helping students to create and reset last year’s password, begin ongoing discussions about digital citizenship and appropriate use and get their online core tool accounts set up.
Oak Hill Elementary will continue its work into Year 3 of
FCPSOn, a digital transformation of teaching and learning in the Chantilly
Pyramid. This initiative has enabled our students to have equitable access to
technology and our teachers to creatively incorporate the Portrait of a
Graduate skills into everyday work.
Students in grades three through six are expected to take
their device home nightly to complete necessary schoolwork, charge the device
for the next day, and bring it back the following school day. Just like in
previous years, they will be given a carrying case to transport the device
safely. Students will not be able to take their devices home until the SR&R
form has been returned to the school. The SR&R includes an acceptable use
policy for student network access.

Twice a year we give non-profit groups the
opportunity to send paper flyers home with students. The Fall date is
September 26th and the Spring date is April 10th. These
flyers must relate to the schools’ primary function, the education of
students. If your group wishes to distribute a flyer, the following
disclaimer must be printed on the flyers, “These materials are neither
sponsored nor endorsed by the Fairfax County School Board, the Superintendent,
or Oak Hill Elementary School”. Flyers must be delivered to the school,
in 35 groups of 30, by Monday, September 24th for the fall date and
Monday, April 8th, for the spring date.
We're All in and Full STEAM ahead. Our students have
started their journey; get aboard and support our students through your
support of the PTA and benefit from the following: After-School activities, Assemblies,
Multi-Cultural Night, Grace Arts, and so much more! Register through our
website and use the code W7TNKV to join the school PTA. Pledge is $65 for one child,
$80 for 2+ students. Membership has the following benefits: early bird
registration to programs, free directory, and pay $25 less for
programs.
For those that registered for membership prior to
registering for programs and did not receive a discount on programs, please let
us know immediately. We encourage online membership to reduce
issues but will still accept memberships by check or cash. Here's to a
great year!
Coming soon, The grade that has the most memberships will
win an EXTRA recess!
Thank you,
Oak Hill PTA
