Students and their parents/guardians are welcome to come and meet their teachers, see their classroom, and drop off their school supplies on Thursday, August 23rd.  Students who ordered the PTA supply kits last spring, should first go to the cafeteria to pick up their kits prior to visiting their classrooms.

Thank You, Eagle Scout, Nick Margraf

outdoor classroom

Nick Margraf, a senior at Lake Braddock Secondary, and son of Mrs. Margraf who is a Fairview staff member, built us this fabulous outdoor classroom space for our students.  As you can see from the photo, the classroom was built on the hill below the playground near our lower soccer field.  We are excited for this additional space for teachers to take their classes outside for Outdoor Learning.

Summer Reading Celebration to take place on Friday, Sept. 7

Link to Fairview Summer Reading Google Form

During the summer children are at risk for forgetting skills and valuable learning that they had mastered during the school year.  One of the most important things that all children can do during the summer to avoid losing their newly gained reading level is to READ every day.

In order to promote reading during the summer, Fairview is teaming up with Fairfax County Public Libraries for their summer reading program.  Fairview students who read the required number of books based on their grade level will be invited to participate in a Game Party during the second week of school.  All forms, whether submitted in paper form or with the use of the above listed link to a Google Form, must be submitted by Friday, August 31 to receive credit.  The Summer Reading Celebration, for all students who submit their form on time, will be held on Friday, September 7th in the cafeteria.

Fairview Handbook Highlights

Change to Parent-Teacher Conferences

In the past, teachers scheduled a face-to-face 15 minute conference with each child's parent/guardian at the end of the first quarter.  The first Monday and Tuesday in November were reserved for these conferences.  When FCPS eliminated the early-release Mondays, schools were told to use those two days in November as Professional Development and Teacher Workdays.  Although Fairview continued the practice of holding conferences for every student, we will now conform with the other FCPS elementary schools and not hold conferences on those days.  Please know that we continue to believe that communication between teachers and parents/guardians is extremely important and an essential component for student success.

This year, each teacher will call parents at least twice within the first semester to discuss your child's academic and social/emotional progress. The first phone call should occur sometime during the month of September with the purpose of sharing important information with each other that will benefit your child's learning progress for the duration of this school year.   The second phone call will occur sometime during the 2nd quarter - preferably in November or December, prior to the winter vacation.  This conversation should focus on your child's specific academic and social/emotional progress to date.  Please note that parents and/or teachers may request a meeting at any time during the school year if there are more serious concerns for which a face-to-face conference would be more beneficial.
