HMS Kick Off

This thursday August 23rd from 4-6 pm is the Herndon MS Kick off. 
Enjoy learning about and building community as you:

  • Pick up schedules, forms and bus information
  •  Walk the build and familiarize yourself with your classrooms
  • Learn about school programs, supports, and resources
  • Sign up for SIS/ParentVue
  • Turn in school forms
  • Purchase PE uniforms
  • Learn about our After School Program and other things
  • Talk with transportation, drop off medication, find out about lunches.
  •  Meet other parents.
  • Eat! Food Trucks will be available with many food options for sale outside of door #6. Menus for Spitfire and Steak vs Burger are here. 
  • We also will have Kona Ice!

***parking will be available on the side faculty lot, back bus lot and at the extended stay hotel on Elden St. PLEASE DO NOT park on 5th Street or Locust Street.

First Day Alpha Room

The first day of school is Tuesday August 28th. All students will report immediately to an Alpha Room to get a new schedule as changes continue this week. Alpha Rooms will be posed throughout the school but a copy is here for your reference. Students will get a schedule on colored paper as their final. 7th graders will attend an assembly first thing in the morning and 8th graders will attend an assembly in the afternoon. 

2018-19 Bell Schedule

Students will be expected to be in class at 7:25. School ends at 2:15. On the first day of school, students will report directly to an alpha room when they arrive (coming soon) to get their final schedules. They will then follow the schedule for an odd day (periods 1,3, 5 and 7). On the second day of school, students will follow the even day schedule.  More information to come.  

Parent Vue

Parentview accounts will be available with students schedules beginning August 23rd.  

SIS Parent Account Provides:  access to view your child’s student information, including attendance, report cards, class schedules, gradebook (for Middle and High School students), course history, discipline, health, and school information.  More information is available here.

Once you have a Parentview account, you can log in and update many school forms electronically!  Use this link for more information on how to do that!  

Herndon Middle School is getting a face lift!

Grace Landscaping has agreed to help clean up the front of the school by helping with the front gardens and areas. 

Gracie Landscaping is a local and family owned landscape maintenance company.  Owners, Joshua and Kelli Jordan, are the parents of Andrew (a freshman at Herndon High), Brady (a 7th grader at Herndon Middle), and Katherine (a 5th grader at Armstrong Elementary).  

Herndon MS appreciates their donation and support.  They also will work with the school and community to organize a school cleanup day in September. Stay tuned for an online sign up for students and parents to pitch in and finish the job through weeding, raking, and planting!  We look forward to this community endeavor!

FLE Opt-out Information

HMS 7th and 8th graders participate in the Family Life Education through their Health and Physical Education class. The FLE curriculum is comprised of a unit on human growth and development and a unit on emotional and social health.


The FLE Parent Preview Notification Letter and an FLE Opt-Out Request Form were sent to each family in the student packets that were mailed out last week. The letters (in English and Spanish) are attached here and include information on the process for opting out of any part of or all of the FLE lessons as well as information on the Parent Preview Night. If you choose to opt out your student, they should bring the completed Opt-Out Request Form to school when they report for the first day on August 28th.
