Welcome Mr. Gary Morris!
The
Region 4 Office announced on Wednesday that Mr. Gary Morris had been named the
new principal for South County High School. His official start date was
August 16, 2018.
Mr.
Morris brings a wealth of knowledge and experience (back) to South County High
School having served as a founding member of the administrative team as an
assistant principal when the school first opened (2005-2009). He also served
for five years as assistant principal at Mountain View High School where he was
promoted to principal in 2015. He was also a nominee for the Region 4 First
Year Principal of the Year Award. Mr. Morris is a strong instructional
leader who believes in promoting best practices for teaching and
learning. He builds relationships with staff, students, parents and
community members and has demonstrated his strong ability to create, support
and maintain a positive and collaborative culture wherever he has worked.
Mr.
Morris holds a Bachelor’s degree from Norfolk State University in Electronics
Technology, a Master’s degree from Norfolk State University in Technology
Education and an Education Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership and
Policy Studies from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
Throughout his tenure with FCPS, he has remained abreast of the latest
trends in education and teacher leadership by attending workshops and becoming
well-rounded in all aspects of best practice instruction.
Mr.
Morris looks forward to meeting with students, faculty/staff, families and the
community as we begin the new school year. You will see him in the halls during
the Stallion Stampede on August 22nd. Additional opportunities to
meet and greet Mr. Morris will be announced in future communications.
Stallion Stampede
We are delighted to welcome you to the 2018-2019 school year at
South County High School. We hope you had a restful summer and are equally
excited to come back to school on August 28. All the information you
need to start the school year will be accessible at the Stallion Stampede, August
22 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. There will be a special orientation for 9th
grade students from 5 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. in the auditorium. Our traditional
Stampede pep rally will begin at 6:00 p.m., and will be held in the Gym.
Orientation Program
(For students/parents who have moved into the South County High
School Community for the 2018-2019 school year.)
An Orientation Program will be held on Friday, August 24, from
8:30AM to 10:15AM, for all high school students (grades 9-12) who have relocated
to the South County High School community for the 2018-2019 school year. Students
will learn about our programs and activities from current SCHS students and
will have the opportunity to ask questions, tour the school, and meet
administrators and school counselors. Students should bring a copy of
their schedule to this program.
On arrival, students
should report to the auditorium. After a joint informational session,
students will report to the cafeteria while parents/guardians will remain in the
auditorium. We look forward to meeting you and hope to help make your
transition to the SCHS Stallion Family a very positive experience.

The finance office hours to clear student debts and to return textbooks will be:

Payments can be made via cash, check or money order only. There is a student debt list posted outside the main office which is listed by in alpha order using student ID number. Your student is more than welcome to stop by and check the list.

2018 TWILIGHT ROCK-N-Run
Runners
and walkers from across Fairfax County will converge in Lorton, for the South
County High School Band's 4th Annual Twilight Rock -n- Run 5K. This yearly
family-oriented event on September 22, 2018 also features a 1-mile Glow Walk
and a Kids' Fun Run. The evening event benefits the South County High School
Band program.
The
USATF-certified measured course starts and finishes at South County High
School. The 5k race is run on a paved, mostly flat course that starts on the
SCHS campus, goes past the beautiful Laurel Hill Golf Club and South County
Middle School and ends in Stallion Stadium.
The
overall top male and female, as well as the top 3 runners in five age
categories will receive awards!
Race
Co-Director Robert Kolb says, "The money raised will go towards
maintaining and repairing band instruments, purchasing music rights for the
marching band performance, entry fees to band competitions, and transportation
to play at games and competitions."
