SCHOOL NEWS:
Take note of what's happening in the next two weeks. We're excited to see you soon!
Teacher Letters: Letters indicating what teacher your child has for the 18-19 school year will be sent today. Please do not call the office to ask about teacher placement until at least Thursday, August 23rd. Give the US mail a bit of time to deliver the letter to you. Included in this letter is also bus information.
New Family Picnic and Orientation: This welcome picnic for new families will be on Thursday, August 23rd. We will get underway with our welcome and orientation at 4:30 (you can arrive starting at 4:15). Please bring blankets or chairs to sit on during the picnic part. We will supply pizza, water and ice cream for all families. Rolling Valley teachers will be in attendance during the picnic portion of the evening.
Please RSVP at https://goo.gl/forms/PId9diXEO5tHcpBo1 if you are a new family.
Open House: Monday, August 27th from 3:00-4:00 - PTA school supply orders can be picked up starting at 2:30. Rooms will be available to visit from 3:00-4:00 and students can drop off supplies at that time. We will also have Kona Shaved Ice for sale in the parking lot. We can take medical forms and medicine in during this time in the school health room..
School Lunch: It's a great time to load money onto your child's lunch account. Parents/guardians may view student account balances and add money to the lunch account via www.MySchoolBucks.com (no payment required). MySchoolBucks also provides low balance e-mails and low balance phone app notifications to parents.
Lunch Assistance: If your family qualifies for free and reduced meals, the application is now on-line. Go to www.myschoolapps.com, select Virginia, choose Fairfax County Public Schools and then follow the directions to enter your information.
First Day of School: Tuesday, August 28th - Students can arrive as early at 8:55 on the first day of school to wait in the cafeteria. Parents can come and walk students to class or say good-bye in the cafeteria. We only ask that if your child is a bus rider, you have them ride the bus to school that morning (and you come separately). We've found that this really helps with the dismissal routine at the end of the first day if they followed the usual morning routine. Classes begin at 9:16am. Please be on time on the first day!
"Bye-Bye" Breakfast for Parents: On the first day we will have bagels, juice and coffee for parents in the cafeteria after the student drop off. We will have our counselors in the cafeteria to answer any questions.
School Dismissal: 4:00pm. Parents meeting students to walk home should enter the front doors of the school and wait in the cafeteria. Please keep the lobby clear. Kindergarten students who are walkers will be walked to the cafeteria by an instructional assistant to meet the parent/caregiver to go home.
Breakfast for Students: This will begin on Wednesday, August 29th. If your child is a walker, they should be arriving to school no later than 9:00 so they can eat breakfast and get to class in a timely manner. Breakfast is $1.75.
If you have any questions, please email Maureen Boland at mboland@fcps.edu.
