Dear Floris Families,
Yesterday, we welcomed a fabulous group of teachers
new to Floris! They are energized and
looking forward to the upcoming school year, and we are excited to have them
here!
- Ms. Jordan Mezey, 3rd grade teacher, recently
relocated from Pennsylvania. She earned her degree in Early Childhood Education
from Ohio University.
- Ms. Madison Elliott, 6th grade teacher, is a recent graduate from Virginia Tech with her Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction, with a focus on Elementary Education.
- Ms. Natalie McMonigle, 5th grade teacher,
has been teaching for seven years, most recently in Florence, Italy. Her degree
is from Colorado University with a Masters in Math and Science education.
- Ms. Sydney Drinko, 1st grade teacher, is a recent graduate from Virginia Tech with her Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction, with a focus in Elementary Education.
- Ms. Tjima Saitta, enhanced autism teacher, has
been teaching for 14 years in grades K-6 and received her Master’s Degree in
Special Education from George Mason University.
- Ms. Victoria Rehder, stings teacher, completed
her first year in FCPS as a general music teacher. She earned her degree in Music with a
concentration in Cello Performance.
We welcome all our new teachers and staff and know
that the Floris community will make them feel at home.
You can meet all our teachers and staff at our
Open House/Back to School event on Thursday, August 23rd. (see
schedule below). By now, you should have received an email with your child’s
teacher assignment. If you have a rising 6th
grader and the email stated “Unassigned; Missing TDAP” instead of providing a
teacher name, you have not submitted proof of your child’s Tdap immunization.
Students cannot attend school without this information.
Looking forward to seeing you next Thursday!
Sincerely,
Gail Porter, Principal and Dave Gerstner, Assistant
Principal

Open House/Back to School Event
Mark your
calendars! We are so excited for you to
join us for this exciting event. On August 23rd, we are
combining our open house and back to school events on the same day. Our students will explore their new
classrooms and meet their teachers, as well as allow our parents to receive a
curricular overview and understand student expectations for the school year. Kindergarten will have a Back to School
Night from 6:00-7:00pm on September 12th.

We will have a variety of team building
activities provided by our school staff. Our school specialists and
instructional assistants will lead the activities. The locations will be
in the music room, gym, cafeteria, art room, library, steam lab, and counselor
room.
Our building supervisor, Yeni Moreno, and her incredible staff have worked effortlessly this summer to ensure a clean, safe and beautiful building for students and staff!
