PSAT At West Potomac High School
The PSAT will be administered to all 9th, 10th, and 11th graders on
Wednesday, October 10, 2018. Ninth grade students will take the PSAT 8/9, which
is specifically designed for eighth and ninth graders. Tenth and eleventh grade
students will take the PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test
(PSAT/NMSQT). FCPS will provide the PSAT 8/9 to ninth graders and the
PSAT/NMSQT to tenth graders without cost. The cost of the test for eleventh
grade students will be covered by our school.
Tenth and eleventh grade students with disabilities documented in a 504 plan or
an Individualized Education Program (IEP) may request accommodations for the
PSAT/NMSQT. Accommodations must be approved by the College Board and
documentation must meet the criteria outlined on their website, https://www.collegeboard.org/students-with-disabilities/eligibility.
Not all students with disabilities require accommodations and some
accommodations received by students in school are not deemed necessary by the
College Board for the purposes of participating in the PSAT. Accommodation
requests must be completed and received by College Board by August 21, 2018.
Each high school has a designated staff member to assist with requests for
accommodations. Please contact our SSD coordinator, Jeff Levy at jklevy@fcps.edu to begin
the accommodation request process.
For ninth grade students taking the PSAT 8/9, students are
encouraged to test without accommodations to determine a baseline before
applying for accommodations on the standard PSAT. Feel free to contact Mr.
Levy if you have any questions about the accommodations.
Students may prepare for the PSAT by visiting www.collegeboard.com,
getting a good night’s sleep prior to the test, and eating breakfast the
morning of the test. I encourage you to discuss the testing with your student.
If you have any questions about PSAT testing, please contact our assessment
coach, Mr. Easter at raeaster@fcps.edu
